To anyone over there in the eastern area of Saudi that three city section of Dammam AlKhobar and Dhahran: Apparently from the one thing I can read about the Al Hussan Housing Compound it isnt very westerner friendly. I'm not looking to spend a fortune on a showy place just something simple with a gym and a decent clean lap pool. My days of partying are over, so this fixation with how can we get alcohol in Saudi, at any given moment seems childish to me, so that's not a factor. If anyone has recommendations or know of some folks that may be looking for a roommate in a large multi-room complex please share as Ill be over there in a few weeks. Any positive and productive thoughts would be great appreciated. Oh yes my budget for accommodation translates in dollars to 770 a month for whatever that might get me. Thanks and whoever can let me know. |

A "simple" place will not have these facilities. Great variation in compounds depending on what you pay. There is also an ethnic bias. Some cater for Asaians. Some for Westerners. Best to wait until you get there so u can look for yoursel. De gustibus..................... |

A monthly housing allowance of $770 (2875 SAR) won't be enough, even if you're sharing a place. You'd still have to cough up additional money from your savings. And that's if there are any shared situations available on your desired compound. Seriously, if your goal for coming to Saudi Arabia is to save money, what about getting a decent one or two-bedroom flat off compound and going to a gym for swimming and exercising? |

Downtown Khobar can be okay. Lots of Filipinos live there and it is quite lively Gyms etc nearby and the Corniche which is good for walking/running/cycling. |

I've always liked this one: http://www.eurovillagecompound.com/
Khobar is so close to Bahrain that surely even serious boozers can wait til the weekend ... hang on ... maybe not. |

Eurovillage is okay but I am not sure of current rates. You MUST have a cdar there. Nothing around the area within walking distance ! |
