The dean of the nursing college at Saudi Arabia's first women-only university resigned in protest to men teaching female students at her school, a local news website reported Wednesday.

One Twitter account under the name Saudi society channel, believed to be run by religious extremists, carried a threat to the minister of higher education.
We swear by God we will not allow gender mixing, even if blood reaches the knees and skulls roll in the streets, read one tweet posted by @ksa12300 on September 3, 2012 - . www.shafaqna.com/English

It seems Uncle Bandar will be upset with the above news! Laughing

A major difficulty in employing women in Saudi is that separate offices must be set up for them..."If they hire women to work, they need another office, with electricity, a dedicated security guard, computers, Mr. Khudairi said. This is a major cost, especially for small, local companies.

Heck, separate universities, too!

Try homeschooling! So we came up with a solution that also gives companies the choice of hiring women to work out of home.

Sorry, Deaness, but is the real issue gender mixing or is it employment for all those young learned female academics?

Or is it your own empowerment entitlement, your personal adaptation of #7 under "University Trends"? http://www.pnu.edu.sa/en/Pages/About/VisionAndMission.aspx

My my my: plenty of s/he and her/his in http://www.pnu.edu.sa/en/Pages/About/RulesAndRegulations/Regulations%20for%20Saudi%20Universities%20Personnel%20Including%20Staff%20Members%20and%20the%20Like.pdf

And yet, not to be forgotten, that is their vaunted culture, which is as "valid" -- if not even more so -- as our Western (sorry, "Western" -- mustn't forget the quotation marks!) culture. Gods forbid one should pass any judgment about it!

Oh, and they're our "allies." Smile

So I guess they're against it, then?

Dear arabiamark,

Leaning that way, I'd say.

Saudi lifestyle will change, once a Saudi version of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk does some house cleaning here.

In my dreams.
