Hello! I'm new here, but I've been reading the forums for several years.

In a few years' time I'd like to teach at a university in Saudi Arabia. I currently have some basic TEFL training, and some experience spread over quite a few years, but I intend to get more up-to-date experience over the next two or three years. I also have a PGCE in the teaching of French, and have recently completed a PhD in an arts subject. (I'm British, btw.)

I accept that the 4 week CELTA is the most desirable course, but I'm wondering if Saudi accepts blended courses. These usually involve some learning done online, with teaching practice gained onsite. This kind of course appeals to me because I can fit it around my other activities, it's cheaper, and also because I don't want to have to spend time in a classroom learning about basic grammar and EFL terminology!

Should I just get over myself and budget for a 4 week course, or are there good employers/agencies who would consider me with a blended TEFL cert. and a few years of solid experience?

Thanks!

CELTA now offers a blended course. With a cert from CELTA, whether onsite or blended, you would not have to try to explain to a prospective employer how/why a generic blended course was solid and reputable.

Although the current research shows that students in blended and online programs get better results than those in bricks and mortar classrooms, blended programs are generally NOT accepted or recognized in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

My advise take the time and do a traditional classroom certification. Why waste your money on a blended program.
