We were given Thursday, Friday and Sat off for Labour Day, but have to go in on Sunday. I've never worked Sunday for my public school before and was informed that I had to come in.

Same - but only 10:20-12:00. Not expecting a huge turnout though as many told me they won't be back until the afternoon. Lesson planning may consist of uploading Rio 2, or The Incredibles to a USB to show in class.

yes. thursday is a public holiday. you were given friday off to give you a
three-day break. sunday is just make-up for not working friday.

it's crazy, i know, but if we didn't get friday off, too many would complain
that a single day off in the middle of the week is useless.

that's just the way it is.

I have to work on sunday and even though this explains why the Chinese call it a "3 day holiday" it still shocks me that Saturday would be included as a holiday.

Its soooooo much easier to get Fri. Sat. and Sun. off and start work on Mon. That means next week is a 6 day work week and does any Chinese really expect to get work done on a Sun.??? I have a TOEFL test prep class with only 3 students and one is always asleep on his desk.

I am fed up with this MYTH that the Chinese work so hard. I oughta post a picture of my sleeping student on Facebook.

So dumb the way it is.
Get an extra day this week and get punished the next.
That's a relaxing thought to have during your time off.

Last year was great. Another teacher and I always blew off the make up days. Boss never said anything and we were never docked pay or reprimanded for it.

(*) actually, it works out that i did two days this week (8 hrs), get a
five-day break, work my 'normal' 3 days (12 hrs) next week.
but i'm with you in spirit!

Same old same old. Nothing new. I'm also working on Sunday due to the 'holiday shuffle'. I seriously doubt all the students will attend, but I have no choice. I have no social life so it makes no difference to me.

Not me! I got Sunday off this week because I get Friday off every week.

Well, I usually just have office hours on Fridays.

Instead, I went to Chongqing to plaaaaaay.

Work, see you on Monday.

Warm regards,

That remains to be seen. I'm workin' on it.

I love her Chinese name because it translates to "Summer Plum" in English. How can one not like that? Very Happy
