At the tutorial centre, I had to work over Easter (no holidays and no time off in lieu).
Tomorrow 1st May 2004, I was told by Wifey that I have to work and can have salary for the day or a day off instead but not a Saturday or a day that Wifey doesn't feel like giving.
Apparently, it costs 10 cents per photocopy at the tutorial centre: as far as I can figure it is not about economising as much as about Wifey being arrogant and showing that she has a veto and the will to use it on a whim. |

Wednesday is my day off, so is Sunday.
Today, 5th May 2004, Wifey phoned me to talk about tomorrow's work schedule.
Are employers supposed to phone you on your days off? |

Previously I took a couple of hours off to attend the PGDE exam and interview. Wifey's husband (one of the directors) never said anything about deductions to salary.
But today Wifey is in my face telling two things, one, do you want pay for 1st May Labour Day or another day off (but not a Saturday). I had to ask her three times about how the day's work would be calculated and she couldn't answer the question. Two, you attended a PGDE interview last week so fill out this form and we'll deduct your salary.
I should get paid on the 5th of the month. I had agreed with Wifey's husband (one of the directors) that, instead of taking a cheque, he would auto-credit my account with my salary. On the 6th Wifey shows up, laughing while I was eating my lunch, with a cheque that would have to be cleared through a bank.
I am pretty broke and was very surprised so I asked for Wifey's husband to be present. I asked him for cash instead of the cheque. Silence, then I asked Wifey if I could have cash saying 'since you seem to be the decision maker". She didn't answer my question, just asked me how do I want to be paid the ....67 cents. I told her to round the figure up and I'd give her the change. Still no answer to my question for cash. I asked her again. She didn't answer me, she told her husband to deal with me and she just walked out.
Then he told me he couldn't do auto-pay , he couldn't give me cash, but could issue me with a cash cheque and I could go to the bank the following Wednesday. I told him that I wanted to get cash today, are you going to deduct my salary wild I go to the bank. He didn't answer. So I had to queue up at the bank for half an hour. And the cashier says, "what about the ....67 cents, we only have 6 cents in Hong Kong now?" So I told her to round it up to 7 cents. Oh but she was going on that couldn't do that but eventually she gave me 7 cents and smiled at me as though she had done me a huge favour.
I am sure it is me who is being pathetic here in all of this, could anyone give me perspective here? |
