I am wondering if anyone has worked with EIE? It is a Canadian run organization, there site is at: http://www.eie.org.cn
Apparently they are in several universities (Chongqing Normal University, Liaoning Normal University, Yantai University, and Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology).
They are sending the job offer tomorrow and I am eager to sign, but wanted to see if anyone else had any thoughts. |

Pay is 5000RMB monthly, Free private accommodation (on campus) utilities paid by teacher, no more than 20 hours of teaching per week, normal hours between 8-5:20, overtime is optional (at the low low rate of 75rmb an hour), must do 2 hours of office hours \ english corner a week, some mandatory meetings during 11:30-1:30 breaks. 2 consecutive days off
800rmb for medical (most likely Entry exam),
10,000rmb for airfare (even though not full year)
50,000\100,000RMB for a breach in contract
Just completed my physical and HIV test, signed the contract and scanned, and they will be overnighting the invitation letter for Z Visa by the end of the week. |

This sounds like a contract I worked a few years ago at Zhengzhou Univ. The school honored all terms of the contract and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I was paid RMB4800/mo with 18 classroom hours + 2 hours/week English Corner. Students were great & I never travelled anywhere (throughout China) alone. I always had students volunteer to accompany me, even when I went downtown shopping. It was a great experience that I'll remember for the rest of my life. |

I am guessing this sum is if YOU breach the contract. if THEY breach it then it is still probably your fault? |

Found out the ultimate hangup... after I signed the contract (which the MoU listed Foreign expert on)
"Regarding to your questions, school pays for the medical and the residence permit after you arrive in China. However, you need to come to China with an F visa instead of having a Z visa, because China has a policy that started about two years ago, teachers with less than two years full time teaching experience after they receive a Bachelor degree are not able to receive a Foreign Expert Certificate, that means you can't apply for a Z visa coming to teach in China."
Their next email (after I said that was very risky, and asked if they had any special arrangement with the PSB) that "many schools are doing it throughout China"
Should I run? Ie. pick another company? I want to leave within a month (or however long getting a Z Visa takes) and I have like 30 emails in my inbox this week from companies who could do just that. |

salary waaaay too low. Breach clause waaaaaaay too high. Working on the wrong visa is illegal and can land you in big trouble. 'Lots of schools are doing it''. So what? Lots of people smoke crack, it is still illegal. Schools who do this disrespect the law. How well do you think they will respect you? |

pick a new school. that contract isn't that great.
too many hours for the pay.
max hours at a university should be 16.
why a recruiter?
you can apply to the school directly.
should you run? there's no running yet....since
you haven't signed a contract. you simply signed an
agreement to sign the contract. they would use the
document you signed to apply for the work permit. after
you arrive at the school you sign the real contract
when you sign the real one, read it carefully. it's not
unknown for schools to change the contract wording
without telling you.

What you should do is slow down and take your time. Is it essential that you leave this month? October's almost half over now. Sit back and do some reading of this forum (take a few weeks if you have to), scroll through and read about what goes on here in China, ask some pertinent questions, and look at more jobs. You already signed one contract before discovering there were problems. Rushing into something here is potentially disastrous and sets you up for a massive failure.
I could be mistaken but people who are in a rush to find new employment are usually in a rush because their finances aren't great. I hope this isn't the case but you're not planning on coming over here with an empty wallet are you? |
