OK, what I am interested in is your guess about the average length of the stint of a so-called 'Western' English teacher in the KSA. Count it all in: the ones who resign after a month, the ones who get fired after two weeks, the ones who do their stint of a year or two properly, the ones who realize how much they love (their salaries in) the KSA and stay for 25 years.
Here is mine: 2 years. |

Dear desert_traveller,
I'd say two to five. The reason: after five, your bonus (at many places) increases from half-a-month's salary for each year employed to a month for each year, Quite a difference.
I didn't "love" the Kingdom, but I liked my salary and I really liked my job. I was earning top dollar (for an EFLer) doing work that I enjoyed a lot. So, why change?
Regards,
John |

Ditto for me ...what John said, 10 + years, but with 3 different jobs in KSA, no regrets no looking back wondering what if ...woulda, coulda, shoulda...I am happy where I am in my life. I enjoy my job. I would have no problem teaching in KSA for another 10 years.

I did 8 and a half for KFUPM and its constituent community college HBCC. Long holidays made that easy
Befor that I did 6 years with Saudi Arabian Airlines. Short holidays but nice ticket privileges

I knew one guy hired by SAMAREC in Jeddah who asked to leave while being taken from the airport to his accommodation after arrivail. "Not so easy," we told him,"First you have to get an iqama and get processed in. THEN you apply to get out."
He was not happy. |

Scot, which park, Hyde park in London, or Douglas park in Glasgow?
I know a guy who stayed for 25 years as an English teacher in the Magic Kingdom, and it seems he was happy with his job. |

The exact location of my park bench is a closely-guarded secret. |
