Hello!

I am new to the forum, and have a couple questions. I am interested in teaching overseas during the summer, but it seems to be difficult to find any information on summer programs. As I currently have a job here in the states as a full time teacher I am not necessarily looking for something that pays oodles of money. Any information you guys could provide would be great!

Keep in mind that two major issues are involved to hinder your idea:

1) It may cost more to do what you want than the money you would make. Airfare is going up, plus there is the housing issue. Keep your current place, and you will have to pay double rent.

2) Visa. To work legally, you need a proper visa, and it may not only take months to get, but it may not be offered by such a short-term gig. I would say that that would actually be the case most of the time: no visa.

Another thing to consider is the simple fact that a lot of countries do not work on the Sept-June schedule.

The majority of camps in Korea are Jan-Feb with a few in August.
Thailand camps/summer session is from March - May.

Camps usually do not pay airfare (so tend to hire locally (teachers who are on the same breaks)) and as mentioned above it can take months to get your visa organized if you are just looking at a camp job.

Best bet... pick a country and just take a long-stay vacation.

If your interest isn't about making money but instead, is in teaching English short term in some exotic or interesting country, then check out the links for volunteer teaching jobs on this site (www.eslcafe.com/search/Jobs/Volunteer/index.html).
