|

Hi - I'm still looking into going to Indonesia to teach next year with my boyfriend and am unsure how to word our applications.
Is it possible for an unmarried couple to teach at the same school?
I know that Muslim Indonesians believe it's a sin to live together (kumpul kebo) without being married but would that prevent us from obtaining positions together?
Does your private life stay private or will not being married be a massive issue?
Thanks in advance.

I can't see this as being a problem, yes Indoensia is a Muslim country but a lot of the schools are chinese owned and a lot of the students are chinese (as they are the ones who can afford the fees). many teachers go to Indonesia single & then end up in relationships with other teachers, or students/staff at their school - although this is forbidden in the contract it rarely causes problems unless the relationship is problematic & affects others.
Biggest problem will be the area 'chiefs' who run the security where you will be living. Again, this should not cause problems for you, they simply don't like to see Indonesian girls staying over at their boyfriends' homes.
Hope this helps. |
