I'm looking at finally getting down to the Philippines this summer at the end of August, and I'm considering heading to Siquijor. There seem to be a lot of people who've spent time in the Philippines in this forum, so I thought maybe some of you have been there and can help me out.
I'd like to do some scuba-diving, some hiking and maybe some biking. I'd like somewhere beautiful and not too hectic. I don't drink, nor do I care about nightlife.
Is Siquijor worth checking out, or alternatively, can you recommend any islands in the Visayas that might appeal to me? I've only got 8 days in the country, so I think I'd like to find a nice base I can explore from.

Thanks

Camiguin might better suit your want list.

Hot springs, cold springs, hike the volcano, dive the sunken graveyard and old town (as well as the usual run of reef diving).

Nice to bike around or take a motor scooter and romp around for a day or two of exploring.

We had a great time in Siquijor. There are some nice beaches. It is definitely laid back. We stayed at Coral Cay Resort. Tiny little resort with good food, a nice pool, and rooms right on the beach. The snorkeling was good and there were some nice dive sites. There seemed to have been much more underwater life here than in Bohol.

We went for a couple of hikes. Nothing spectacular nor difficult.

Hope that helps a little.

Watch out for the witches... At least, filipinos like to say there are witches in Siquijor.

They're all good. I have a friend who goes to the Philippines every vacation (5 months of vacation a year), and ends up in Siquijor for a little while every chance he gets.

So, I guess your basic question, is Siquijor worth it, and I'd say 'yes'. Actually tons of islands all over the PHilippines, they are all interesting on differnet levels. Not better or worse levels, but just on differnet levels.

ALso, I suppose you researched it before, but Siquijor has a ton of very very interesting stories about it. A lot of Filipinos are quite scared to go into Siquijor, which to me, just makes it all the more interesting.

Special note before your mind runs wild. They just have a lot of stories about magic, spells, and powerful people in the 'other world' who live there. I love hearing the stories myself, which has always intrigued me more about the place.
