I happen to have my resume posted on a site or two specific to English Teachers in Korea. Got this e-mail today:

Dear Teacher,

I am Frederek Sigvard from stockholm, Sweden and work as an Engineer at Chevron Oil Lagos, Nigeria. My wife and Kids recently joined me in Nigeria; she is Swedish and can't speak English. I am seriously seeking for the services of an English Teacher.

I have reviewed you resume online and would like to know if you would be able to come and teach my wife and four kids Ludvig, Helmer, Synnove and Arvid English most importantly is my wife; She would be attending an interview at a bank here in Nigeria soon. I want to know if you can come by July 2008 to teach my family English.

I am willing to offer you US$6,500 per month with health insurance and return ticket. I have a twin duplex which I and my family occupy one of them at the moment, and if you accept this offer, you would be staying in the second Duplex. I will pay for your airfare cost if you accept the offer.

Regards
Fred (+234 708 728 6586)

They must believe A) English teachers in Korea are stupid and/or desperate and B) Rich, but not rich enough to not be enticed by their stellar offer.

Anyone else had this offer? I'm sorely tempted, but honestly teaching English in Korea while my family's 10 milllion dollar fortune sits at my fingertips is much more appealing.

Last fall, after I was in a segment on Arirang TV, I received a Nigerian scam letter, which was mailed from Nigeria. I laughed, wrote on the front of the letter, "My first 419 hardcopy scam" and displayed it in my office.

I received the exact same email from Fred a few days ago. Weird thing is that I haven't posted my resume anywhere. I wonder where Fred may have gotten my email from.

My coworker fell for this scam.

He called the number and talked to the "guy". He arranged everything and the guy sent him a contract to sign.

He went around telling everyone he got this "amazing offer" from nigeria and he was going to leave at the end of the month. Everyone said " dude this is probably a scam..." He contested.

So he put in his letter of resignation to the school, which was a big problem as he would have been leaving without proper notice.

As he was preparing to get his "visa" he said to the guy "You know my friends think this might be a scam." The guy hung up never to call again and he returned to the school completely red faced with his tail between his legs

I am sorry but I am still laughing about it!!!

Call me slow, but how does this scam work? Does the scammer ask for money to process visas, etc?

This scam has been around for a couple of years. Here are links to threads here on dave's...

The reason his wife will be going to work at the bank is because they arrested a woman the was responsible for all of the "I want to give you a share of 25 million dollars" scam. So I guess she is going to take her place.

I get a lot of those. Why are so many from Nigeria? Get them from elsewhere too, but man, Nigeria sounds corrupt as hell.

I'm guessing it was more than one lone woman.

Years ago, I heard the Nigerian gov't was in on it. There are students from several African countries at the university where I teach and they make clear they are not from Nigeria due to the reputation.
