I've seen some job ads where they ask for apostilled docs in order to apply. I checked http://www.apostilleinfo.com/uk.htm and it will cost around $30 just to get the docs. Clearly I can't do this for every job I apply for, so I was wondering if anyone has had any recent experience of this?

Just scan the apostilled docs and email the scans to the recruiter as proof you have them. ANY trustworthy recruiter won't ask for your docs until you've had your interview with the school and been confirmed for a position.

Under the new MOE/POE regulations that were passed last summer, ALL teachers, regardless of visa status.....

E2, E7, F2, F4, F5, ...... if you are planning to teach... then YES.

It was actually done to specifically close the loophole that some F-class visa holders (F4s in the case that was brought up as an example when the law was passed) took advantage of and were subsequently convicted of crimes against kids while working here in Korea.

Damn. It is so expensive to get this done in the UK (17 per doc). Which documents are absolutely necessary? I only want to do this once..

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us/what-we-do/services-we-deliver/legal-services/Legalisation/030-Links/010-How-to-apply/

Apostilles are THIRTY pounds per document, the info you had was unfortunately very out of date.

1. Get a photo copy of your degree. Get a REGISTERED SOLICITOR (not a public notary) to CERTIFY the document as genuine. This means writing 'I certify that this is a true and genuine copy of the original", then personally signing, dating and stamping it. Certification should cost no more than 7 or 8 pounds. Any solicitor who says otherwise is a scumbag.

2. Do the same for your Disclosure Scotland UK-wide CRC.

3. Send them to the FCO (the link I provided) with 2 payments of 30 quid.

4. Scan those docs with their apostilles and send them to recruiters to prove you have them ready. You should have a job within a month unless you sound like a cretin in the phone interview.

5. Send those along with all the other stuff to Korea, AFTER having an interview with the school itself and AFTER being confirmed for the job, and not one second earlier.

6. Done.

By the way you now also need a monstrous 70 or 80 pound to pay to the Korean Embassy for the work visa...well for E-2 you do at least.

Christ on a bike, 60 quid!? I am on an F2 visa right now and it is due to expire June next year. Does this mean I have to do this just to renew my visa?
30 pounds? That's number 2,337 on the list of reasons why I don't want to go back to the UK!

You do NOT need to do it to renew an F2.

You do need to do it if you want to be a teacher (MOE not immigration).

Geez-for once I feel good about being an American in this whole process.
My docs only cost 2 bucks to apostille the degree, and -what was it-8 bucks for the cbc. Are you guys including the cost of express mail in your total cost? Cuz if not, I feel for ya!
Good Luck!

Wow is it really that cheap there? Here in Australia we pay $60 per page for an apostille stamp (after having to pay to get it notarised too if it's a uni degree). I just had two documents done and it cost me AUD$120 which at the moment is around USD$123. Ripped off!

We are talking public schools and hagwons, right? As far as I have heard, there has been no mention of this REQUIRED at the uni level.

Which side do you scan?
The apostille is affixed to the back of the document.

If you scan both sides, how do you prove that the apostille side relates to the other side?

For the job application it doesn't matter.

For the visa application they get the hard copy.

If you don't need it for the visa application (f-visa) then the MOE/POE gets to see the hard-copy.
