Yes, I know this thread is self-indulgent, and even a bit solipsistic.

Many years ago, Boyd de Mente, an avowed lecherous expat writer with several legitimate books in print introducing various Asian cultures, wrote about the comparative merits of women from a large selection of Asian countries. His sensuous but not explicit descriptions, a kind of erotic ethnography of the region, were organized into vignettes, one for each country. He never revealed his personal favorites.

Now of course it's common sense that female appearance runs the gamut from drop-dead gorgeous to unforgivably ugly, but the range itself might not be the same in every country--or so I'm inclined to imagine.

I used to believe that Chinese women (esp. from the mainland) were the most attractive in Asia, combining natural beauty with grace, endurance, and a certain almost naive charm. And many among them have indeed inherited a very rich ancient culture and the appealing traits that go with it. While I still tend to cling to this perception, I must admit that my recent trip to Thailand has got me thinking that Thai women can certainly give them a run for their money. Thai women strike me as more patient and tolerant and their smiles seem more often genuine than not. They too have grace and natural beauty, although some admittedly wear a lot of mascara. And that richly brown skin is hard to beat.

So I've had to revise my scale of Asian beauty (based only on the countries I've visited and in consideration of the range of attractiveness--physical and not--that I have encountered in each:

1. Thai
2. Chinese
3. Mongolian
4. Filipina
5. Korean
6. Japanese
7. Indian
8. Vietnamese
9. Indonesian
10. Malaysian

What does your list look like?

(Remember: I'm focusing on attractiveness and temperament, especially as these women reveal as a first impression in Asian nations you've actually lived in or visited long enough to enable you to get some sense of the range of women abounding therein).

Thai women attractive? This is a country where ladyboys are often indistinguishable from the female population. That tells you a lot about the females.

So ladyboys negate Thai women? Talk about willful ignorance. Rolling Eyes

I have graduate degrees; I've never heard of the type you mention. Must be the kind you earn from a correspondence course. Start your own thread if you don't like it, or ignore this one.

That's what I was going to say - assuming that the women you see in Thai are ACTUALLY women...

station beers at umeda station at the kirin beer stand on a friday night watching the non-stop procession of mini-skirt wearing, buxom secretaries and college students going about their business, shyly grinning as they knew they were being admired.

Most Korean women are beautiful, but most are boring, boring, boring.

It's finding that rare one you enjoy being around that makes it worth it.

Yeah, this is too difficult because you're generalizing way too much...

How about you say - Here are photos of women whom I've talked to in various countries, and these Thai 'girls' are by far the prettiest?

Then we can look at your pictures and say, "Ahh..you're right. The Mongoloid girl..er..Mongolian.. is a lot more attractive than the Korean girl you talked to."

Then we could all be happy and talk about all of the women you've actually talked to and we could all be on the same page....

...and that's my view of a perfect world!

"Attractiveness" is too broad, I think, because even a plain woman becomes attractive if she is rich, kind and generous (or even a little crazy...)

Using physical beauty as the main criterion, I would have to acknowledge that there are certainly significant numbers of world class beauties from China, India, Korea, the Phillipines, and Thailand (and probably at least a few from every Asian country...)

Of course, most Asian women are not physically beautiful (and many are most accurately termed ugly...) But, in general, I would say that Korea has notably more than its share of beautiful women - but (at least in South Korea...) most of them have had cosmetic surgery done.

Here's from an article written by a BBC reporter on assignment in South Korea:

South Korean women have a reputation as the most striking in Asia. ...

And the men are also shaping up. Korean actors are currently the region's premier heartthrobs.

The Korean look, with high cheekbones and sculptured features is all the rage from Shanghai to Singapore.

South Korea is in the grip of a beauty craze.

Investment

The streets of Seoul are thick with impeccably groomed young women in miniskirts, seemingly immune to the sub zero temperatures of the Korean winter.

Women of marriageable age are under intense pressure to look their best at all times and one of the consequences has been an explosion in plastic surgery.

A woman's magazine recently advised its readers to spend 30% of their incomes on looking good.

The reason, you will end up with a better and richer husband and that has to be a sensible investment...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/from_our_own_correspondent/4229995.stm

Then again, I saw an article in the Korean Herald a couple years ago where a husband sued his wife for divorce on the grounds that he married her thinking she had good genes (for attractive offspring) because of her looks, but when their first child turned out butt ugly, he realized that his "beautiful" wife had actually been very homely prior to extensive cosmetic work ...

Not a bad thread. This is a question worth exploring.

Thai women are indeed beautiful. But I've bumped into a few Vietnamese women lately who are gorgeous. They are little, shapely, well muscled...

The warmth of the Thai smile is hard to beat. And, yes, that deep brown tone of their skin...

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I've not met many Chinese women who've led me to think that Chinese women are particularly beautiful. I'd love to be shown good justification for placing them so high on the list.

So: 1) Thai, 2) Korean, 3) Vietnamese, 4)Japanese, . . .
