There have been a few threads about it.
Basically, avoid it. The pay is low for the amount of work you do (30+ teaching hours a week plus 10+ of prep.). You get 10 days of vacation, minus a few days of "mandatory" vacation the company takes from you. In addition, you're dealing with an administration that views you with contempt, doesn't appreciate the work you do, (and doesn't compensate you fairly for it), and wastes no opportunity to make life difficult for you. The last sentence is fairly typical of hagwon, which is why you ought to find a place with better benefits. They had 9 runners in 9 months during 05-06.
That said, Bundang is a decent area, and the elementary school kids around there are smart and cute. There are tons of hagwon per block there, so try again. |

i will vouch for everything smee just said. Avalon is a well greased money making machine that does not compensate fairly for the work of it's teachers.
the school needs to recognize that the teachers are the backbone of it's business, but it is too blinded by greed. the school will cut major corners to save a buck. those cut corners end up being your money, peace of mind, and happiness in the work place. avoid it. |
