Could everyone post all the good restaurants they like in Daegu. I am looking for some alternatives to Korean food or even some really good Korean restaurants that have some added advantage over your neighborhood sam gyup sal place.
Here's the ones I know of:
Shanghai Grill - It's a chain but it's got some good American style Chinese food and Thai food. It's about four blocks north of the Daegu Bank metro stop. There's also another one called Shanghai Bistro (same menu) that's about six blocks east of the Myeongdeok stop. Prices are from 13-15,000 won per person. They have lunch specials for 5,000 won M-S from 12-3.
Ali Baba's - This is a Pakistani place with really friendly staff, good service and good food. It's about 15,000 won per person. There's a buffet which includes nan, rice, 8 dishes, desert, cola and tea for 10,000 won on Sunday night from 7-9. It's across the main drag from Bukbu bus station. No metro stop that I know of. There's another Indian place downstairs that I have never been to but the food looks good.
Samarkand - This is a fairly good Russian place down on Jungangno shopping street. The food's okay and the service is very ...err Russian. The kleb is good but the plov tastes like it's made with taco seasoning and the borsch is a bit flavorless. It's a nice break from Biminbap though.
There's a couple other Indian places I've found which aren't really worth mentioning. One down on Jungangno and the other across from Kyungbook University's front gate. Neither of which are very good but if you want to know where they are I can explain.
Does anyone have anything else to add? |

Have you tried the Vietnamese place? Or maybe it's a Thai place. Sorry, I can't remember. Anyway, it's not Korean. It's across the road(ish) from the Ariana Hotel (which is down the road from Outback which is down the road from the Beomeo intersection)...
You can make your own spring rolls. It's pretty cool. |

There's an AMAZING authentic Chinese restaurant right around the corner from Bukbu bus station. Its run by a couple of women from Jilin province and they make all the hits- gong bao ji ding, guo bao rou, san xian rou pian, you bing, jiaozi, etc. They even have Harbin Beer (Hapi). |

Is Italy-Italy still around? Was between Jungangno and the road Withus is on. Their arrabiata pasta sauce was especially good. |

Ali Baba's is the best Indian/Pakistani food in Daegu I think. Sundays are a really good deal for the buffet, and staff is really nice. I agree the other Indian restaurants in Daegu right now are not worth mentioning.
Samarkand I heard is Uzbekistani (I don't know if that's true...), and I find the food really good- it's mostly lamb and is really cheap. Especially those lamb samosa type things (I don't know what they're called!) and the kebabs. But half the times I've been there they've been sold out of many things.
There's a good Vietnamese restaurant in the middle of downtown but it's hard to give directions to get there in that maze! It's next to The Gallery shopping centre. If you go to sam duk so bang so, go down the street that The Commune's bar is on and the road is your second or third left, I think. There's a lingerie store on the corner. It's got good pho and spring/egg rolls. Very similar to the one in Busan on Haeundae Beach.
There's also a nice cafe across from the Vietnamese place called Cafe Francesco. They've got good soup/sandwiches/salads/coffee, what looks to be a good wine menu, and a patio (although all you see is the street... still...). There's an even nicer one next to Suseong Lake with a bigger and nicer patio.
Dijon is really yummy but kinda expensive. Still it's worth it once in a while I think just to have some good French/Mediterranean type food. Great steak and lamb there- if you want steak, skip Outback Steakhouse and go to Dijon! It melts in your mouth. The restaurant right next to it called Into has a nice atmosphere and has the same owner, but I don't find it preferable to Dijon. The menu there is smaller and it's often hard to get a seat because there are not many tables.
Italy Italy has pretty good pasta and you can choose your own pasta type, sauce and toppings. They've got really good pizza too- very Italian thin crust.
Tteulerae is nice sometimes. It's a little down the road and across from the big Seattle's Best downtown (toward Migliore). It's got an enclosed courtyard with a bit of grass and trees where if you sit on the patio you can almost forget the street outside The food is fusion food mostly but the cheese platter is a nice change, and they've got good wine/coffee/shakes.
There used to be a restaurant called Dinkum's close to downtown- I heard it's closed for renovations but should be reopened soon. It's a buffet restaurant and is much better than the salad bar at VIPS- a mix of Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Western food. To get there I always just asked a taxi driver to take me to "Myungsung Wedding"- it's right there by the wedding hall. |

The PakAsian in Sungseo is pretty good. I'd prefer it to Ali Babas. I go there quite regularly as it reminds me of the indian near my house at home. Whether that is a recommendation or not, I don't know |

I'm excited to go to some of these places. If possible can anyone give better directions to Italy- Italy and the Vietnamese place.
I hear there are two Vietnamese places. My friends went to one and had a terrible time there. I don't want to go to the wrong one. |

Italy Italy: Isn't that directly opposite the Itaewon bar?
So, standing outside downtown BurgerKing (with you back to burgerking) there are 4 main choices of directions. Take the 3rd street counting clockwise. Walk down the left hand side of that road. On your left, there will be lots of side streets. One of those side streets has a small sign which indicates there is a Thai restaurant down it. Go down that street (I think it's the 4th side street you come to but I could be wrong on that) It's about 10m on your left. |

I think I understand where that is. Kind of by Burnham's burger place right?
Also Matilda I think it would be nice to have a Dave's-Daegu area- dinner- getogether - thing. |

I haven't been to Italy Italy in over a year, but unless the location has changed, I remember getting to it the easiest, if you enter downtown from Samdeok Fire Station, go straight past Commune, and take your first right, then look up to the 2nd floor on your left and you'll see it. Or look for #35 on this map. |

Harbin is one of the best beers from China. Is it possible to purchase any bottles of it in Seoul or Pusan? |

Let's go to Italy-Italy or the Vietnamese place. Although we may be the only two attending. |
