In your experience, or those you know well, what would you say are the main pros and cons of living and working in Daegu (proper)?
Thanks for your insight... |

Well, I'm not gonna list much here. Just let's say I'm living in Seoul now, and there really are times I miss Daegu! There's something about the downtown and foreigner night life that seems... oh, i dunno, just right!
It's got a healthy assortment of restaurants, excellent transportation system, cool sights to see around the city (good hiking trails and nature to see)... A couple of good clubs, cafes, ... Daegu has all you will need I'm sure. |

Pros
Restaurants are about 20% cheaper in Daegu
Daegu is fairly compact so getting anywhere is easy
It's central position in the country means it's a great springboard to other places in Korea for travel
People seem to be a bit friendlier than in Seoul
Traffic is a lot less of a problem in Daegu
Cons
People stare at the foreigners a lot more.
There's a definite lack of festivals and conventions (like in COEX in Seoul)
Not many good foreign food restaurants (so you'd better like Korean food).
5 hr bus ride to get to Incheon airport or pay higher plane ticket prices to leave via Daegu airport |

Totally disagree regarding said lack of good foreign food restaurants:

Some of the italian ones in Daegu are simply amazing and run by former head chefs in major Seoul hotels. Daegu's Indian food scene is really good, too, as is the French. |

Still, it doesn't compare to Seoul with regards food. I went to one Indian restaurant in downtown Daegu and it was pretty shocking. I'm sure there are other good ones somewhere. An Italian restaurant I liked there recently closed down. |

The restaurant downtown is horrible. There is one location on the street with all the bars and clubs. It's on the second floor, near Bubble Bar. There is a small sign with a woman's portrait painted, and Korean writing.
The ONLY decent Indian restaurant is across from Bukbu Bus Station, just north of Homeplus in Buk-Gu. If you are standing on the main street, across from, and facing the station, walk down the main street to the left. it is on the second floor... the name is Ali Baba.
They have a 12,000won buffet on Sundays. It's alright.
The second best WAS across from the main gate of Keimyoung university. The Pakistani woman who did the cooking, left the country. Since then, the food has been pretty bad. If she's back, it couild be back to normal. |

Good stuff:
Mountains.
Subway system.
Quazi-crap stuff:
If you live closer to downtown, you're in a concrete jungle.
Muggy summers. |

Sorry, Chronic, but currently there is hardly a decent Indian food scene here.
The downtown venues, and the one at Yeungnam University serve oil soaked fried flour pancakes as Nan.
Alao, ever since the woman from Pak-Asia at Keimyoung U has been gone, that place has suffered as well. They serve some kind of oil mixture as curry.
Granted, I haven't tried the place at Kyoungbook U, but I heard it's quite similar to the quality of the downtown joints.
If it's decent, it would make a total of 2. |

I noticed an unfriendly attitude towards forigners when I spent a couple of weekends there.
Like I said, only a couple of weekends, so it might just have been my mood or something.
Anyone noticed it? |
