I call them errors, not mistakes.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SPELL
definitely
and
a lot
correctly! I'm sure there are other annoyances, but these two really get to me.
FWIW, use the spellchecker in the google toolbar. |

My personal annoyance is "resign" and re-sign". |

"every day" = Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday ...
and
"everyday" = ordinary, not special |

If it's in a classroom, it's important.
If it's on this website, it doesn't matter, unless someone's post is full of errors or bad grammar. Fast typing for conversation w/out editing = simple mistakes.
Here's my reply filled with errors that are too extreme not to comment on:
If its in a classrooom, its importent.
If its on this websight, it don't matter, unless someones post is full of errors or bad grammer. Fast typeing for convirsation w/out editting = simple mistakes.[/quote] |

One that really sets my teeth on edge, although not a spelling problem, is misuse of the word "literally". I think it's been years since the last time I saw it used correctly.
"We were literally starving to death". No you were fucking not; you were just really hungry.
"Bondaegi literally tastes like shit". No it fucking doesn't (well, maybe it does, but I'd like to know how you would know that). It just tastes really bad. |

I once saw a teacher write out a report card for a boy named Scott and spell his name 'Scat'. |

"Everyday Fresh" bothers me.
I don't like using "beg the question" to mean bring up the question. (not really a spelling issue.) |

Actually, words like "definitely" are among the most misspelled words in the English language. When I was taking a PGCE course in England, very few trainee teachers knew how to spell "definitely". The second "i" is commonly replaced by an "a". |

I too am definitely annoyed a bit, not much, but a bit, by the number of educated people who misspell definitely. A bit, not a lot, mind you.
I have to start a new thread now. |
