Hi,
My school is moving me around a bit and it looks like I'll be working in Hongseong city for the duration of my contract. Is there anyone in this city at the moment who can give me a heads up?
Cheers |

Hello, Danny!
I worked there year before last and I was sorry to leave.
It's not a good city for party animals, but I was happy because I'm not a party animal.
It is such a small town that I saw someone I knew every time I went outside.
When I first moved there, I met a small group of foreigners at Lotteria.
As far as I know, there is no bar where the foreigners hang out.
I worked for a school which had declining enrollment. I left because I was afraid that I wouldn't have that job much longer.
I recently learned of an upcoming vacancy in another school in Honseong, and I tried my dangdest to get the job because I wanted to move back there.
It is a short trip to Daejon, where there is a beach. |

I believe what tomato meant to say is that it's a short trip from Hongseong to Daecheon, i.e. õ, where there is a mightily famous beach. Also some nice beaches and beautiful scenery in Taean, about an hour away.
Of course, Hongseong is fairly close to Daejeon as well, but as far as I know Daejeon does not contain anything even remotely resembling a beach. It contains a lot of other stuff though.
I remember at least once in my Chungnam days almost getting a ticket to Daecheon instead of Daejeon because my pronunciation was so poor. Only the difference in fares tipped me off.
What a difference a little aspiration can make. |

Sorry about that.
But while I'm on the line, I have two pointers for anyone going to the beach:
Number one: Don't worry if you find out you're in .
They changed the name. I'm confused about whether they changed it from û to or vice-versa, but they changed it one way or the other.
Number two: Don't waste money on a cab to the beach.
You can catch a bus at the depot marked ؼ.

Hello, everybody!
Danny must have leaned on the keyboard the wrong way after he wrote his message, because he somehow started two threads with the same letter.
For anyone who is interested, here is the other thread:

Hi everybody,
Thanks for the replies - it seems as if the town is small, but perfectly formed - although I'm a bit worried that there are no bars ! I thought Koreans were really into their drinking........?
Anyway, I'm sure it can't be all bad, and am really looking forward to landing in the town.
Cheers

There is a bar that used to be popular with foreigners called Happy Days. I don't think business is very good anymore, though. |

Sorry I was there ages ago - 2004. Back then there were about 8-10 foreigners I knew of, but I heard the population has doubled. |

I just left Hongseong last month and the foreigner hangout is Bobo's, directly across the street from the CNA store. It's on the same street as Lotteria, about a block further down. If you go on Friday night, you are sure to see at least a couple of the remaining foreigners in town. |
