Bought a netbook in Yongsan on Tuesday. Erased the Korean Windows XP and spent 5 hours in a PC bang Wednesday evening attempting to make my 4GB USB drive able to install English Win XP on the netbook. No luck, spent 2 hours last night, and I've been in this one for 3hr35min attempting the same thing. I just CAN'T waste my time on this anymore. No access to command line b/c it's a public PC.
Does anybody have a CD/DVD drive that connects to a USB port that I can stop by or meet you somewhere to use to install Windows on my netbook?
I desperately need this functioning so I can prepare lesson plans (Powerpoint, access to helpful lesson plan websites) on the go and in my apartment. My only computer access are PC bangs (if they have Powerpoint, it's Korean) and my classroom computer (extremely slow, also Korean Powerpoint).
Or know where I can buy one for less than $50? I really don't want to pour a lot more money into this thing, but I'd rather spend more money than more time. I can even tip you if you would like. |

There are some for cheaper than 50kwon, just search Gmarket.
Incidently, I'm thinking of buying a netbook and installing this:
http://www.eeebuntu.org
Better than windows IMHO. Openoffice's "Impress" is presentation software very similar to powerpoint, and even exports to powerpoint format, and it's free and legal. If you're at all familiar with powerpoint you won't have any trouble getting up to speed with Impress.
Eeebuntu downloads such that you can just slap it onto a USB memory stick and boot your netbook from it. You can either run it off the USB drive or install it to the hard drive if you want You could even partition the drive to leave space to install windows and have a working computer to try and figure out how to do so. |

I plan on trying out some flavor of Ubuntu on it after I get Windows installed. If you want both Windows and Linux, it's waaaaaay less of a hassle to install Windows first, and then Linux. Installing Linux first, and then Windows can be very, very difficult. Thanks for the tip on Gmarket! Though when I click "English" at the top, nothing happens. Still in Korean. Anyway, I'm going to Seoul tomorrow so maybe I'll check out Yongsan. Not to self: Do not buy one over 50k won.
I got the Toshiba NB200. I'm going to try out Linux Mint on it eventually. |

Isn't that only for the case and drive not included? |

I second jackdaniel's question. This is the whole shabang? Drive + Cable to connect it to USB? What a steal.
Went to Yongsan today and could only find them for 80k-90k, but those could burn DVDs as well. I had four different people tell me that they only sold the read/write multi-drives and that they were all at least 80k. Just not worth the price to install Windows.
I'm going to my school on Sunday since I can access the command line. A lot more options for installing via USB with that available. If that doesn't work, at least I'll be able to make my lesson plans on the school computer until I can order that damn drive. |

If I read it right. It's a CD rom. It's not a dvd drive. |

I ended up meeting up with jackdaniels in Itaewon so I could use his USB CD drive without buying one. Thanks a lot, man! Had a great lunch at a Thai place just off the beaten path and FINALLY got the whole install thing worked out. Great guy to have in the Dave's community. |
