My current visa is up in july and i'm starting a new job in August. Is it possible to stick around after my current visa expires? (before the new one starts) What happens if i leave the country with an expired visa?
Also, my school gave me the option to resign at the end of june so I can go home before the new job starts... So, when i resign, does my visa and expiration date on my koeran ID become void? I am planning to work until the end of june and leave before the date on my ID card.
Has anyone been in this situation? Any info will be greatly appreciated. |

Your new employer cannot start the application for a visa until your old one has expired or you previous boss releases you. It will take 5-7 business days to process the visa issuance number, and then 3-5 days to get the visa stamped in your passport.
So, depending on when in July your visa expires, and when in August your new gig starts will be the main factor of whether your boss needs to cancel the visa.
You can leave the country anytime you want. Just hand over your ARC when you leave the country.
You cannot stick around with an expired visa without having to pay a fine. If you choose to stay, you must show immigration a ticket that proves you are leaving the country. I seem to remember that this extension can only be 2 weeks, but not 100% sure on that.
You could always leave and come back on a B2 travellers visa. But what would be best is to have your new employer start processing your new E2 visa the minute your old one expires. Then go to immigration showing you have a ticket to Japan within 2 weeks. |
