I was thinking--which is unusual for a guy like me.
This is what I was thinking: What would happen if I won the lottery and didn't have to work for the rest of my life?
And here is the answer: I'd be dead in a year from partying.
To me, that's the value of work. It keeps me from being dead in a year. |

Even assuming you stopped the partying in time you'd still be in grave danger.
Gradual estrangement from your current social circles. Buddies who laugh at your corniest joke, making you suspect that they're after a favor.
Your new neighbors would want to know how you'd made it as they had.. When you let on that you'd been "very fortunate" you'll see the looks in their eyes hardening.

| I'd so LOVE to win the lottery! I'd travel more, do whatever I wanted to do, and live off the interest and NEVER work again! It would ADD years to my life, I'd think! Never getting up early again would be priceless! |

| most people who win the lottery end up worse of than before they won the money. People tend to fritter away money they haven't actually earnt. You can imagine people who build a mansion with the winnings and after a while when the money runs out they can't even afford the upkeep. Of course we all think that would never happen to us. |

Yeah, but you're a girl, so all you have to do is marry a man who can make a reasonably good income, and then they whole scenario could play itself out, without winning anything. Women have been doing it for quite a while.  |

| Well, there's a difference between working and having a job. I may well continue to work if I were to win the lottery - relief work or something like that. But, I would NEVER have a job again. **** that! I would do something I wanted to do. I'm sure the lower stress levels would actually prolong my life expectancy. |

My best friend's brother won 1.6 million when he was 27.
Bought a sexy condo, car, and went to baseball camps for a year or two.
Then he woke up one day and discovered that the neighbours at his sexy condo thought he was a drug dealer, and he was surrounded by "friends" who were hopelessly unemployed moochers.
Who else would be available to hang out with him all day when he didn't have to work anymore?
He was not happy.
So he went out and got a job. I have a lot of respect for him for doing that. He could have just as easily kept going and imploded.
He's worked ever since. He's the best salesman the company has. |
