Hi, can anyone recommend a free program for converting .avi files into a format that can be burned on a DVD and played on a DVD player? |

VSO convertXtoDVD
Search for it on a torrent site to get the "free" full version. I downloaded 1980's spiderman for my nephew, converted it to dvd so he could watch it. The dvd was great quality (as good as the avi) and was a region free dvd. |

I use the "cyberlink Power producer" that came bundled with my burner and it works just fine for the conversion.
I have created and burned DVDs from AVI, MPG, and WMV files.
It will do the conversion automatically if you want it to as it burns the DVD. |

I've tried searching for VSO convertXtoDVD on sites such as www.isohunt.com, but while they have links for the torrent, there aren't any seeders. As for Cyberlink Power Producer - it's not free (at least, if you aren't able to find a torrent for it). |

Try Torrentspy. You'll be able to download it in about two minutes. |

The only problem I have with "cyberlink Power producer" is that you must specify a region or DVD type. The program I specified will work on ANY dvd player. |

Yep. It's dead easy to add subtitles too. You can put two movies on one disc with decent video quality. I think the max is four hours movie time. |

As it happened I needed to convert avi/mpeg/etc to DVD just yesterday. I remembered skconqueror's post and downloaded VSO convertXto DVD. Sweet little program and great for the novice. All automatic and basic. Nice! |

Tried the VSO software but 3 hours of work led to a stupid watermark on the middle of the screen, and why would I pay for software that should be free somewhere on the net?
Voila! DVD Santa--works like a charm, although the source material I've had to work with thus far has been less than stellar, so I'll let you all know how good it works with proper DVD rips. |
