As the title suggests...
Anyone know where I can get sour cream?
I am also looking for a bamboo steamer (to make those yummy steamed buns you see everywhere).
Thanks |

Try Costco or Hannam Market/Dandy's Grocery store in Hannam-dong for sour cream. |

I've bought sour cream at two places in Seoul. One is Jell Deli, just down the road from the Hyatt. The other is the basement supermarket behind Gecko's in Itaewon. Big containers for about 8000 won if memory serves me... |

Make it yourself. Use a little plain yogurt and whipping cream. Whipping cream is 4000 won for a lg container. Will save you money and hunting time. You can make almost everything that is difficult to find in Korea. Just a little effort saves a lot of money. There are some good websites for cooking: recipesource.com or foodtv.com
good luck. |

be forewarned. . .costco will take a vacuum to your pocket. . .this after a Saturday trip, 300000 poorer. . ..it is pretty cheap, but you have more to choose from, and you have to buy in bulk. |

If you find Sour CREAM or just plain YOGHURT, for the love of God, please mail some down here!!!!
Okay, I'm just kidding, still, I have to say.....
Korea's a great place, but the dairy sucks - cheese slices, mozzarella, milk that goes bad in two seconds, sugary yoghurt, and ice cream. No cottage cheese, sour cream, or decent yoghurt. Curses. I thought I'd miss dill pickles the most. |

Koreans invented Sour Cream didn't you know? Just leave your kimchee out for 3 months, and Voila! (sp?)
As for your best bet, Hannam is the way to go, as the main grocery sells 16oz containers, while the smaller sells 7oz....if you aren't a gung-ho SC eater, I suggest buying the smaller, as it goes bad in a month or so.
Shoosh,

you can go to www.yoricome.com to order sour cream for 6,000 won. i'm sure it's better to go to costco...but it's too far. i also live in small town, korea....you'll need a korean to help you order, but it's worth it. good luck. |
