So here they are in Korea on their missionary visa's, and what else are they doing. Muscling in on our livlihoods. How? Free english lessons that's how!!
If being on an E2 and working for free in an orphanage is a deportable offensive, then teaching english for free when on a missionary visa should also be deportable.
Curse you Brigham Young! |

I actually studied Korean with Mormons in Incheon. Good guys.
I feel sorry for them wasting their time trying to convert people here though. They get a lot of doors slammed in their faces.
The last time I saw the Mormons was on the day I was leaving Korea. I yelled "See ya" at them from the car while they where trying to pursuade a fish monger that Joseph Smith REALLY REALLY WAS A PROPHET!
Which he wasnt. |

I'm Mormon and went to Italy on my mission back in '91-'93... Because the wife is Korean everyone assumes I went to Korea. That would have been nice, because then I'd actually be able to speak Korean. |

| As one of those darn mormons that taught free English during my first two years here, I can promise you that there aren't that many people coming to learn free English. That and religon visa alow you to do service, including free english. |

No offense but I doubt it. Most of us here can't hold a conversation in Korean. You have a better chance of learning from your wife than learning from being here. Cute kid by the way. |

We lived for two years in Korea, and I would have to disagree with you there.
Missionaries are put through a two-month intensive language course. Then, upon arival in Korea, they're talking Korean all day to people - day in, day out, for two years.
Comparatively, when we lived in Korea (2 yrs), I'd be teaching (and therefore speaking) English most of the day. And since my wife's English is quite good, she defaults to speaking English to me at home. Result - I speak almost no Korean.

Okay, let's say you're talking to a Korean and you convince him that Jesus returned to the Earth in Utah. Okay, it's acceptable. And that Joseph Smith is the only one who saw proof of this. Alright, it's not called faith for no reason. And that God cursed the people of some countries with dark skin for some reason. Insulting but they'd probably go along with this because they're hanging on so far.
But then they reach for a bottle of soju..."Put that down!"
I imagine that's the deal-breaker for Mormonism in Korea. |

Besides which, most of the people who study English with the missionaries don't have the option of paying for hagwons for their kids. |

Ha, awesome episode. How many Korean wives do you mormons have??
From Southpark "Dum, dum, dum,...dum, dum, dum, dum..dum, dum.
Mormons must fit right in with the mindless following of Koreans. |

The most famous Mormon in Korea is Jeffery Jones.
He is a lawyer who was once chairman of America Chamber of Commerce in Seoul, also head of PaJu English Village, head of Korea
Tourism Organization ( He was a first foreigner who held Korean government job ).
He came to Korea as a missionary, went back to States to get law degree, came back to Korea, stayed in Korea since then, married to a Korean, I heard he speaks excellent Korean.
