This will be my first winter camp and I was wondering what exactly goes on. I'm not sure what far off small town I'm going to, but I'll be going with about 10 other teachers from Gunpo.

Just to be clear, this is NOT my school's winter camp.

The basic info I'm looking for is what are the hours like, the living conditions etc.

Only other teachers from Gunpo will be able to help you with this. This has nothing to do with KyounggiDo, only with Gunpo City.
Well, the camp is about 2 hours away, leave Monday morning and come back the next Saturday.
For a camp, it's pretty darn good I think. There are little cottages for the teachers to stay in, 2 in each cottage. They are small, but new and have everything you need. And, there are a few large houses for the students to sleep. There is one main building where all the classrooms/auditorium is. And, there is one restaurant building where they cook all the meals for us during the week.
You will teach 19 hours during the week. I think the schedule runs from 9am to 7pm, something like that, with breaks for lunch and dinner. You will teach every other class period, so about 4 a day. 15 students in each class, and a Korean college student TA in each class.
For a Korean camp, it's really well run and organized. Definitely nothing to sweat about. The staff there is really great. I've been to 3 of these things, this one being my 4th and final, and I kind of like going.
Any more questions? Bring em on.

That sounds like quite a fun camp. Except that you can't go home in the evening. Where is Gunpo?

Thanks Zappa,

Which session are you going to? Are the cottages equipped with a kitchen unit of some type? I'm a vegeterian and so eating spicy fish soup, and fish laden kimchi, Galbi etc isn't something I'll be doing. I'm a trained cook, so all I need is a burner, a pot or pan and a small grocery store and I'll be able to make due.

As for where Gunpo is, it's on line 1 and 4 of the subway, with two stops, Gunpo (line 1) and Sanbon (line 4). It's a couple stops after Anyang, if that helps situate it for you, or just go to a subway map.

I am going the 3rd week. They have a small kitchen, burner, pot, refriegerator, etc.

Hmm, any jobs going there come September?

Do you make your own lessons for the camp or do they provide books?

I'd just like to add that you are basically in the middle of nowhere for the camp. You'd better bring your own food with you if you're planning to cook.

What else? It doesn't get much easier than this camp. However, not being able to go home is super lame, teachers should definitely be receiving bonuses because of this.

OP: What subject are you teaching?

What 'subject'?

SPORTS

I'm a sports pool junkie, and I play just about every sport you can imagine, so I'm looking forward to a challenging week!

Oh yeah, sports. Me too actually.
God, it doesn't get any easier. I did sports in the summer too. Play the games aned encourage everyone to participate. To encourage English I would give timeouts to players for a minute or so for too much Korean. After three time outs the other team starts to get points because of it.

With lower levels I would do tpr exercises before we play. With higher levels (grade 5-6) I would ask them easy questions before and if they make a mistake...they get to run a lap or two. Another good warm-up activity is to put many different sports words (in big letters) at the other end of the gym. Two students stand at ready and you call out one word. The two students have to run to the other side of the gym and the first one to tag the correct word first is the winner.

Can I make a suggestion: please don't play dodgeball (even though it's in the "curriculum." The game is banned in school districts around the world for a good reason.

Can you guys believe people got paid $300 for downloading crap off of bogglesworld and submitting it as lesson plans?

A little off topic, but what is generally the pay for a winter camp? summer camp? Can you only work for a week or two, or are there any that are longer? And what bonuses(accommodations, any airfare help, etc.) do they give you, if any?

I've been here for a little while and am looking for something different....

Thanks
