A friend of mine started in a hagwon at the start of december. so far his boss still hasnt sent him to japan to get his visa, and it looks like he is stalling on getting it processed for as long as possible in order to get him to work for longer than 1 year.

granted what he is doing is already illegal, but is there anything i can do anonymously to get the boss to speed up his act, or is there anything immi can for for my friend in this situation?

Leave that school. Get the documents back and leave.
If that kind of crap is starting now, other BS will only follow.

I agree totally that he should have left, but he really likes the school and the hours are good for him (he is a first timer though, bless him). his boss has been good in other areas, such as paying him early and giving him advances on his wages, but i quick to point out that these are just sweetener gifts that will force him to be obedient for the remainder of his contract.

what i'm looking for is for someway to pressure the boss into speeding up the process without it looking like its coming from my friend. immigration would be a place to start but i dont want my friend to get in any trouble with them (which i assume he would). i keep telling my friend he's working illegally but he doesnt want to rock the boat (as most newbies don't). maybe a korean friend posing as immigration could make the call to his boss asking for a time that he can come to the hagwon to get it checked out? this would make the boss **** his pants for sure.....

does anyone have any ideas about this?

Agreed. You can give someone advice but you can't give them ba11s. They have to grow them on their own.

Your friend has to decide if it's worth it to stick it out at the hagwon he's working at (visa-less but enjoying his job) or a) risk getting deported or b)worry about things like expiration of his tourist visa and getting his airfare reimbursed at the end of the contract. It's his call!

What's the problem? Wasn't your friend hired after an interview? If he did a demo class as part of that then the visa processing should be started immediately after the contract is signed. If your friend has any temper at all this won't rest easy with him. The boss puts your friend in an anxious, uneasy situation, at a disadvantage, in this. It's disrespect, and illegal. If the boss thinks he can break the law from the outset, based on his 'charisma', well.....

"Send me to Japan, now!" (or something like that).

thanks everyone - i agree - he needs to get a pair and confront his boss about this.
