For anyone interested in buying a computer, stay away from this company of incompetent and uncaring service reps.
I got a PC from them almost two months ago. Right from the start there was a problem with any kind of video (DVD, MPG, AVI, even the opening movies from games, although gameplay itself was clean). It has been nothing but a hassle trying to get someone to come and fix the problem. Some specifics:
- Waiting for hours in the evening for the rep who was supposed to come at an assigned time, only to show up 1, 2, even 3 hours late. He even managed to show up at midnight twice. This on evenings when I had to work early in the morning. This happened on several occasions.
- Waiting for hours for the rep who who failed to show up on the appointed evening, period. There were numerous times when he was supposed to come on, for example, a Monday, and didn't show up until the next day, or even the day after. Again, repeat offences.
-General incompetence. He insisted that the problem had to be with drivers and software. I had already downloaded all the latest drivers and software from the original manufactureres AND from Microsoft, none of which solved the problem. So here comes jokerboy to my place, and he proceeds to download all the same things which I had already done. All the while I'm telling him, "I did that already", but he just waved me off and did it anyway. After nearly an hour of this (with my g/f also telling him the same things), he turns to me and says that the drivers are not the problem, that it's probably the graphics card - which is what I had been saying all along. Good work, Sherlock Edison. They took the tower away twice to replace parts, and everytime it came back, the problem wasn't fixed. (Why didn't they think to test it at the shop before bringing it back to me...?)
- Unexpected service calls! He was supposed to come on a Wednesday to replace the monitor. Instead, the joker shows up Monday at midnight (at which time I was already in bed), promising to return the next night with a new monitor. Tuesday night I rush home after work to wait.... and wait.... and wait... finally he came (late again) on Wednesday night. No phone calls, nothing. All this even though I knew full well that the monitor was NOT the problem... as it turned out, the same problem ocurred on the new monitor, surprise surprise.
- Broken pomises! This is just one example of many which I could recount here, which turned out to be the final straw: He took the CPU (tower) to replace something or other last Wednesday, promising to bring it back the next day. Thursday night comes around, no service call. Friday night right after work I jump on a bus out of town. Around 10:30 or so he calls my g/f asking where I am, as he is now at my place waiting for me. "Too bad," says she, "you were supposed to be there the night before." Service guy promises to come on Monday at 9:00. --------> Monday, 9:00, I'm at home waiting.... waiting.... waiting.... finally at about 5 minutes before midnight he calls my g/f and says he can't make it, he'll come tomorrow.
Well, as I said, this was the final straw. I flipped, and told my g/f to tell him to take the computer and shove it up his arse on his merry way to hell. Packed up (and none too gently, either) what I had left (monitor, keyboard, mouse, cables) into a plastic bag and tossed it all by the door. She called him and swore at him up and down, all the time he's begging for one more chance. Too little, too late. He shows up the next morning all apologetic, bowing, whatnall, asking for one more chance... I literally threw what I had left out the door at him and told him in no uncertain terms to take it and get the hell out of my apt. At this point I no longer care if it works properly.
I don't even care if HyunJu Computer is willing to offer me their best, sexiest, fastest, flatscreen/widescreen, surroundsound, home theater model to make up for all of the BS that I have had to put up with. There is NOTHING that they can do now to make up for the past 6 weeks of incompetence and personal inconveniences which I have had to endure. I am through with them, and I feel great about it.
DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE! STAY AWAY BUY FROM HYUNJU COMPUTER!
(...and yes, I will be forwarding a link to this page to HyunJu's head office.)

And if your problem was with video playback only, he was perfectly correct. There's drivers, and then there's codecs. The tech guy thinking that even with fresh drivers in place that that was enough, and it was a video card problem would then be incompent, probably. So somebody was wrong, it would seem.

Wow, no wonder us waeguk-in get such a bad rep here. Thanks for making it that much more difficult for the rest of us! |

To clarify what the problem actually was:
Anytime one transfers files within XP, a little window appears showing a graphic of papers flying from one folder to the other. Within this box -and only within the box - little red spots would appear and flash/flicker.
Anytime I played a DVD or other video file, little white spots would flash and flicker all over the screen; but again, only inside the video window.
However, game play and screen savers worked perfectly, although the opening movie for the game was spotty.
They DID replace the graphics card (or so they said), and when they returned it, the problem still presented itself.
He updated all the drivers and software himself personally, and the problem still presented itself. They even replaced the monitor, and still the problem presented itself.
However, the problem itself is not the main issue. My main complaint is with the poor, shoddy, afterservice. Clearly there was a problem SOMEWHERE, but why should it take over 6 weeks to solve? Why should I spend countless hours waiting for a service rep who might or might not appear?
Why should I not be upset? I waited and waited, multiple nights a week for weeks on end (and more than one Saturday, I might add, including a long weekend for which I had to cancel plans to travel with my g/f - and yes, nobody showed up, after they had said that they would be there...).
I had to forgo any personal activities which I could have been enjoying, only to be denied proper service, time and time again. I waited for 3 hours that final night; why could he not have called earlier to say he wouldn't come? Why did he wait until midnight to give me the news?
I gave them more than enough chances to get it right. Enough, as they say, is enough. |

I agree, there's a certain point after which I also turn green, swell up, and start bellowing "HULK SMASH!" too.
I do reckon that the less we do this with the local population, though, the sooner they'll start treating us like human beings. I know, dream on.... |

The refund came through today. I 'm lucky to have some rather, er... tenacious Koreans on my side.
...and anyone wanting to buy a nice game controller, go to the Buy & Sell page... |
