|

I just moved to Suncheon and it all seems pretty fine so far, but I've yet to see any other foreigners. That's ok, but I think soon I am going to get lonesome, so if any of you can tell me where to go if I want to meet fellow waegukin, I'd be grateful.
I heard that Elvis bar and Julianne's are good for that, but I don't know where they are. If any of you have the time on your hands, I'd be stoked to get some directions.
Cheers--and thanks to you who gave me the initial input on my earlier 'thinking about moving to Suncheon' thread. |

Where do you live? A LOT of foreigners (40+)live in Si Dae apartments.. if you are also living there you'll find them before too long.
Elvis is located in GumDang Dong. To get there, take a taxi to GumDang Byeong-Won (that is GumDang Hospital). When you get out of the taxi walk straight ahead about 5-10m until you see 7-11. Turn right there and walk straight ahead about 15m. Elvis will be on your left on the second floor of a building. It is next to a bar called Yellow Monkey. At this time of year it will be quiet except on Fri/Sat - a LOT of the foreigners in Suncheon work for public schools and are on vacation now.
Juliannas is located in Yeon-Hyang Dong (might have that a bit wrong..) It is a bit harder to explain how to get there. It is across the road from JB (or maybe JD..) soju-bahng and above a 7-11 or Ministop (I forget which). Juliannas is the place to go for good cheap western food. the owner/bar-tender is a super nice Gyopo (Korean raised abroad) from California who is also a great cook. Your Korean co-workers will know JD soju-bahng which Julianna's is near. You could also try walking the area until you see a foreigner, but that might take a while.
Both Yeon-Hyang Dong and Gum-Dang dong are in the area referred to as the 'new' downtown. In the old downtown there aren't really any bars expats hang out in.
In the big nightclub - Newcastle - you might also see foreigners on a friday or saturday every now and then. There also russian hookers working there in the private upstairs noraebangs. |

Hey, thanks very much.
A couple more questions, for any bodies kind or bored enough...
Are there any bookstores that sell English stuff?
Is there a gym with a squash/raquetball court?
How much for the Russians? (Not really.)
Are there friendly poker games I can join?
Anybody offering free Korean lessons? I'd even do a churchy one.
Anyplace selling Indian food?
How much for the Russians? (No, no, just joking still.)
Thanks again-- |

1. Yes there is one book store in Yeon-Hyang dong which has a few English novels and stuff, and lots of ESL books. There is also the ECC bookstore in Gumdang-Dong which has lots of ESL books. The book store in Yeon-Hyang dong is on the 'edge' of it, it was in the same building as Popeyes chicken but that's gone now, so its kind of hard to explain how to get there otherwise..
2. I know of a squash club that is in Jorae-Dong it is near the Nong-hyeop bank there. It is near Yeon-Hyang dong (the new downtown). It is only a squash center, not a gym or anything else. It is just off of the 'big' road which runs past homeplus (in Jorae-dong) past Newcastle and the New downtown etc.
3. Dunno
4. Juliannas has a regular poker night. I think it is on a Thursday. They usually have a cheap wings deal or something else on that night too.
5. Yes there is a church, in Yeong-Hyang dong that offers free Korean lessons. It is actually offered in a book store (which also has a few ESl books) This book store is located behind "Jo-Eun Plaja" (Jo-Eun Plaza). I forget the name but it is the only bookstore behind the building called Jo-Eun Plaja. I don't know the class times but you could go in there and ask. All taxi drivers know Jo-Eun Plaja.
6. Indian food? No. The only 'ethnic' food I know of is the Vietnamese restaurant in the 'old downtown' (Jung-ang dong). It's kinda near McDonalds but on the other side of the roundabout. It's called Hoa Bin. It's a chain.
7. Still don't know haha. You'd probably have to buy a coupla bottles of whiskey to get access to the noraebang rooms. Or alternatively hangout outside the nightclub at closing time and wait until they come out haha. |

I almost moved to Suncheon. I heard it was a nice place.
What are your impressions? Is it a good town for living? |
