My mom's coming next month. I'm taking her to:

a tour of all the palaces in Seoul
shopping and eating in Insadong, then walking down to the Cheongyecheon, taking it down to shop in Dongdaemun
a trip to Gyeongju, Busan, and Gwangju
pottery-making in Icheon
maybe a weekend trip to Jeju

Plus other suitably Korean stuff like jjimjilbangs, etc.

My Mama came to Korea in October, from England, and I took her to Gwangbokgung palace, Insadong, quick peek up the Jongro Tower and Seoul Tower. We also went to Suwan Folk Museum and TGI Friday.

She went to Itaewon but didn't like it.

Where did you say your Mum was coming from....Scotia? Where's that?

Anyway, hope it all goes well. If she doesn't like Korea she can always feel good knowing she's leaving and you're staying....

nova scotia is the eastern tip of canada... (one point for the often trashed geography skills of american education...)

hwaseong is suwon is pretty cool also. if you are in the country head up to some local hiking spot or a temple, like yongmunsa/yongmunsan in gyeonggi-do.

if she has a sense of humor you can take her to the red light district near chyeongnyangni. my mom, my gf, and i went by there in a taxi, that was kind of funny. my mom didnt know what to do, so i asked if we could stop to get some business cards.

i think someone said insadong already. maybe there are some sports events going on in seoul, so you could show her olympic stadium.

myeongdong has decent shopping, i think...

get out of the city into some good restaurants. the small towns have a ton of good places to eat, places that i never see in seoul. if you come to the yangpyeong area (about one hour east of seoul) there are lots of little cool places to stop and eat, pm me and i will send you more info.

Don't worry about the wine tour. Nova Scotia has some wonderful wine tours (from vineyards that actually produce drinkable stuff), so she can just do that at home. One thing my mom is always curious about is just my daily life. What do I normally do, where do I shop, (depending on on mom, take her to a grocery store, that's always my first stop in a new country) what restaurants do I normally go to? That way when she's home again and missing you she can remember those places and assume you might be there. Other than that, I'd just do some of the touristy things around. Take her hiking, but don't try to do too much that you are too tired to visit!

My mother visited 3 times so far.

The first time she stayed for 3 weeks and this is what we did (in general terms):

Took a trip to Soraksan.
Took a trip to Kyungju: 3 times, 2 to visit my wifes family and one to visit sites. On the site visit we took her to Pulgoksa temple and to the Grotto Budha (she loved it), we also visited the royal tombs.
Visited Seoul (palace, huge open markets, a few museums)
Visited a folk village.

Spent a lot of family time in Busan and took her all around the city.

She is coming back to visit for the 4th time this year at some point....
