I have met a few people who left in less than 2 months. If the job is total crap I can understand it. Some barely give it a chance though. A girl showed up about 10 days ago. She's leaving, back to Canada in a few days. She said, "I never appreciated Canada so much until I got here." I think she knew as soon as she got through Incheon airport that she wanted out. ( "Whoops. Guess I made an error in judgement.")

Have you met any people so easily turned off or overwhelmed so quickly by Korea?

Someone has ran away from every school I've worked for in Korea. But, never have I met anyone ready to go in 10 days.

I have to say, I'm drunk. But even so, I don't have much sympathy for that particular species of dumb. "Oops, wrong country. Wish I'd asked to look at the menu." Right. Excuse me, I need another drink.

I knew a guy who left the same weekend. Said Korea was more humid than he thought and flew to Taiwan (screwing his school in the process).

Famous last words.

We had an English girl who got here on a Thursday, cried her face off, quit on Friday, left on Tuesday. She came for money. My take is give Korea a month, if you still hate it as much as you did the first few days here, its not for you.

Korea's the wrong choice for most of you. You just can't bear to admit this to yourselves.

I'm enjoying the ride, though.

yeah, you have to give a new place at least a month to be giving it even somewhat of a chance. this is the 2nd time i've lived abroad and for me the first few weeks are such a sensory overload home doesn't even cross my mind much. but i guess some peole just aren't cut out for living outside of their element.

i like it here but it's less than optimum. it's a nice choice over canada because canada is dull as paint. i'll be moving on soon enough.

I think one thing about Korea is there are no brakes to someone coming over here. Things happen fast, and when someone is looking for a job, employers do not double and triple-check whether these people are seriously committed and suitable for this life. When you apply for jobs you only ever hear "YES! YES! YES! COME OVER HERE ASAP!".

I've known three examples of people who left early.

1) A really aggressive vegan dude who lost 20 pounds in 2 months. He was always picking fights. Once he was outside the 7-11 in Hongdae talking with some other foreigner about how all white girls in this country are prostitutes. One white girl walked by and he stabbed a finger in her chest and said "*beep*!" She turned out to be a soldier and had a lot of friends backing her up. I wish my friends didn't defuse the situation.

2) The lead singer of the band Drowningman. He came here, started talking about how he was going to be a long-termer in his first week, got addicted to painkillers, borrowed money from my friends, and left after a couple months.

3) An 18-year-old girl who worked with me at my first job. Our boss hated her because she was young, had a tattoo, and smoked. She left on her one-month anniversary at my advice.

Actually the employees should be doing the same thing. Am I really suited for doing this? Am I prepared for the culture shock? But I think a lot just end up jumping into a position and then once they actually get here freak out. I know I did. However, I gritted my teeth for a few months and eventually have come to love Korea. But a lot of people can't see past the initial 'WTF'

Anyway how long do you have to be outside of your home country before the government will grant you amnesty for a felony? Something like 30 years?

Korea is wrong for some.

Some are wrong for Korea.

I've seen the good and the bad , employee and employer wise.

It's dealt with on a case to case basis, I think.
