I am teaching my winter camp now. I try very hard to make them useful fun and interesting but it ain't playtime. I am sick of:

1. Teacher mobie (movie)
2. Teacher game! (Insert whine)
3. It's cold enough to hang meat in here and I come at 8:30 to turn on the heat. Still freaking freezing.
4. Students whining
5. Teacher this is too difficult. Teacher no study ...uno. Uh I don't think so. This is winter camp not winter funland.
6. Me: Student shows up 25minutes late. Why are you late? Teacher sleeping. I send him home. Mother calls and complains because I sent him home. I will send him home again if he shows up 25 minutes late again.
8. Student thinks he can talk on his cell phone during class. Took it away and he cried. Ask me if I care.
9. Groans...Teacher why do we have homework...inside my head because it sucks to be you and you shouldn't act like butt heads in class and whine for movies.
10. Where is everybody...oh teacher there is trip to Everland. I could have planned my class around that but no one bother to mention it and it is not on winter schedule they gave me.

That being said I have a core of about 30 students that show up. Do the work and make my job worthwhile and enjoyable. The rest I just soon not bother coming I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHY THEY EVEN BOTHER TO SHOW UP or sign up. Mind you I do lots of fun stuff too. Cooking and making pinatas show 1 or 2 movies but it is an English camp not just lets watch movies and screw around time. Or that is my opinion.

Rant over
Jade.

I have a choice between a classroom with no power and a classroom with no heating. And down to one fclass of 5 students and another with 4. School is in a mess due to massive remodelling

Oh,you poor people.I have my last day of winter cramp today. No students.

Next week 2 weeks holiday then I come back for February "moving month".Not moving schools just shifting our desks down the hall.A whole month has been allocated for that.No classes.

I'm going to install a vice on my desk and periodically put my nuts in it.

I'm doing winter vacation classes this week and next. Yesterday two first year high school girls were playing with a pair of mittens with an idiot string. One girl had on one mitten and her friend across the table had the other mitten on. They were then using the idiot string to drag pens and papers up and down the table. Whee! What fun.

They thought it was less fun when I confiscated the mittens, opened the window and tossed them out.

I've also discovered a new punishment. If someone doesn't bring their book or pen to class, I send him/her out to the freezing cold hallway for 5 minutes.

Can you tell that I only have 7 more days at this school?

I had three days of winter 'camp' last week, I teach the last week of January, have the middle two weeks off, and who-knows-what for February. The problem is that I have no idea what tone to set. I see Korean teachers walking to class carrying sticks and it's serious business as usual, and then I walk by another Korean teacher's class and there's a student texting away on her handphone and he doesn't seem to care. Students trickle into first block late and I have no idea if the teachers in the other classrooms are doing anything about it and I should too, or if someone else is making a note of it and will deal with them later, or if they're paying extra fees so it's their parents' responsibility to send them to school on time. The first day of 'camp' classes saw the class brat eventually sent to the back of the classroom to hold her hands above her head for the rest of the lesson and then when things calmed down after that the smartest kid started being cheeky and just saying 'pass!' Finally by day three I had them well sorted out and then was off and that part was over. I'm hoping that by the time I get back the two classes I had to teach from 8.30 to 10.15 are down to about 10-12 students each and we can just make a circle and ask and answer questions about things. I could probably get away with just showing them DVDs but the teacher in me seems bent on trying to do something productive.

December through February is an 80% waste at public school, isn't it?

Note to newbies: The above is a gross underestimation.

My winter camp was supposed to be this week. But not enough students bothered to sign up so it was canceled. The school is like a ghost town. I now go on three weeks vacation. It's supposed to be "professional development". I was told that means that I need to be available to come into school in case they need me. Yeah, right, like I'm going to be answering the phone if they call.

Ya I'm fed up with winter camp, it's a F'n waste of time.

I'm even more fed up with the boss telling me how to teach in my class, when I have one kid who doesnt know the alphabet from a hole in the ground, and other kids screaming game, or mobie. Then there are some kids who are finished the book I'm suppose to be teaching, others jsut starting the book, and the other kids who dont have a F'n clue if they should *beep* or p1ss
