Spanish police have arrested Isabel Peron, the former Argentine president, in Madrid one day after an arrest warrant was issued by an Argentine federal judge.
Judicial officials said Raul Acosta, an investigative Argentine judge, wants to question Peron in relation to the disappearance of a man in 1976.
The arrest comes as Argentine investigators have revived investigations into the Argentine Anti-Communist Alliance, a right-wing death squad known as the "Triple A", which rights groups say murdered or abducted up to 2,000 people in the run up to the 1976-1983 military dictatorship.
Isabel Peron, now 75, had no comment as she was driven on Friday from her villa in the wealthy Villanueva de la Canada neighborhood to Spain's National Court, where Judge Juan del Olmo was considering the request to summon her to Argentina for questioning.
