Just wondering...

Are books cheaper in China? I remember seeing the Lonely Planet guide to china for 19,000 Won in Beijing...it's around 30,000 here. Has anybody ever ordered books in English from China, or for that matter any neighbouring country?

I got some really cheap new books the last time I was there (they were all books about China).

Anybody got any links?

Thats an interesting idea! I find the Korean postal system to be really unreliable though.

Books printed by Chinese presses are cheap, usually paperback or softbound.

Books from the U.S. available in China are limited because of ongoing censorship and titles are in any case usually comparable in price to stateside.

I'm not aware of any Chinese distributor of English books in mainland China. Hong Kong is different.

The best Western supplier is China Books and Periodicals in San Francisco but their stock is limited and overpriced.

Can't vouch for Korean post but regular China post has got to be far less reliable unless you use EMS.
