|
|
January 10th, the new policy went into effect.
As a foreigner, I am no longer allowed to make reservations online for taking a train. As a result, I am no longer able to receive the 5% discount for making advanced bookings. Moreover, I will have to stand on many of the trains now, since I am no longer able to make reservations online. My KTX Family card is useless now!
One must have a Korean credit card. Foreign credit cards will not suffice.
Essentially, the english.barota.com site is worthless.
Are any of you upset about this? I have already contacted a few of the newspapers, but some added heat from those of you that care would be really great.
Thanks,
AC |

I wondered what happened!
I'm disgusted! Is there a point to this policy?
But hey... it didn't work a few days ago but seems to be working now. Did they change already?

You are a worker in Korea, not a tourist. Just get Korean credit card from KEB like everyone else. They have credit cards specifically for foreign workers in Korea. |

That's amazing. After spending all afternoon on the phone, etc. It's already been changed back.
I hope it stays that way.
Thanks for your help.

Is that all?
Ahssa! This waygook has a Korean credit card.
Simple as pie to get if you put some money down.
More anti-tourist than anything. Not really anti-foreigner as long as Korean banks give credit cards to foreigners, as they do. |

they keep making it tougher on us, swear we are going back to the mid 90s. whats next only being able to send back 2/3 of our paychecks?
If Korea has another econ crisis will the west bother to help out now that they are reversing the reforms the IMF mandated? |

I didn't think the IMF bailed out a country twice. I thought once was it. |

After reading the original post, it sounds to me that they do not have an anti-foreigner policy, but rather simply require a Korean credit card. If that's the case, then this post seems to be a bit inflammatory. It is not impossible to get a Korean credit card. |

If this policy exists, it is anti-foriegner, or at least anti-tourist. This policy won't encourage tourism. What's wrong with foriegn credit cards, anyways? |

There were claims last year of foreigners not being able to reserve tickets, either. I remember someone posting about it. Their parents were coming to Korea so they wanted to reserve the various trains before they arrived. Couldn't do it without a Korean ID card/number. Poster then had his Korean wife do the reservation, and THAT wasn't allowed either because the OP's parents would need to show the Korean card to get the tickets. When the Korean wife criticized the policy, the rep on the line yelled back "It is Korea's train! It is for Koreans to use! It is not for foreigners!" |

A foreign person in US for example can get a secured credit card if he has a long-term visa (student, worker). To get it you pay a deposit and your credit-card limit is up to that amount. Of course, a foreign person can lie to be a citizen, apply to several companies to get that magic first one. After its easy to get more.
Here you can get normal one. Dunno why you are having problems. |

actually the KTX is a french train, (TGV) built on lisence in Korea running on track designed by French engineers over a route surveyed by a French company. So is it really there train? I think not. |
