|
|
I am all ready to move out to Korea. The only remaining issue is that my University still haven't located my transcripts. The issue is as follows:
I graduated in 1998. In the UK, transcripts are rarely required for anything. To be honest... the degree certificate is rarely required for anything (I never bothered to ask for my degree until 2003 as I had never been asked for proof in any job before that date and have never been asked since).
Anyway... some time after I graduated, the Univeristy updated their IT systems. Instead of transferring all data over to the new system, they simply archived paper copies of it all... and now that I need my transcripts, they need to send somebody into the archives and manually search for my transcripts. I have been waiting for a few weeks and they have not bothered to do this... they actually admitted today that they have not had time and don't know when they will get time to go looking.
Is there any option to using the transcripts? The head of student services seems to be a nice enough woman and if I can come up with a different solution I am sure she will be most willing to go along with it as she can then forget all about going into the archives. There must be something else that will satisfy the immigration sorts... |

The only other option is to pick another country to work in. Immigration is firm on the transcript issue for ALL new E2 applications. |

Guess I will just have to wait for them to get their act together then
Maybe I will give it another week and then hint that I don't really care if they aren't my actual transcripts just as long as they do the job :p |

Perhaps you should pack a lunch, a good LONG novel, buy a couple of bottles of beer and go camp out in their office, and when quitting time comes around, refuse to leave without a copy of your transcripts. |

You could also ask permission to research the archives yourself if you live nearby (or could make a day trip). |

This thought did cross my mind, but UK data protection laws being what they are I get the feeling that they will be reluctant to allow me to go sifting through peoples personal data. I think I will just get progressivly more annoying as the next week goes on. I will tell them I am going to lose a job if they don't get this sorted by the end of January... if I tell them on monday then I have every right to start being obnoxious if they have made no attempt to find them by next weekend. |

Don't become obnoxious. Just be persistant - everyday!
And - it can't hurt to ask if you can do the search. Just might have to sign a privacy statement yourself. |
