The best book you've never read:

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Leguin.

An entire planet inhabited by David Bowies.

The best album you've never listened to:

In Search of Manny by Luscious Jackson

The only better bongs and beer album is Paul's Boutique.

The best movie you've never seen:

A Boy and His Dog by L.Q. Jones

Don Johnson gets his Don Johnson hooked up to a "milking machine".

...Martin, director: George A Romero. Described as being his personal favorite of all his films. Creepy as heck.

...All Shook Down, The Replacements. Of all their late (that is, post- Bob Stinson) records, this one has aged the best.

...The Aquariums of Pyongang, Kang Chol-Hwan. Describes ten years in a North Korean prison camp. Brutal + also extremely well wriitten.

I'm not sure how many haven't read Atlas Shrugged, it's pretty mainstream, but it should be required reading (along with its companion The Fountainhead)

That one is already on my list of the next books I'm ordering.

While I am not particularly adverse to the philosophy behind "Atlas Shrugged" I found it a horrible book to read. Just a really lame story with absolutely flawless heroes and cartoon villains. And a perpetual motion motor or some such nonsense, not to mention the secret hideout valley o' the billioaires give me a break...

Ayn Rand had some good ideas. Some not so good. But one thing's for sure she doesn't write great fiction.

The Aquariums of Pyongyang --- a good book, short, brutal. I think it's enough you'll ever need to read about North Korea.

I'm a fan of the Replacements. I don't know if I have heard anything by them after "Don't tell a soul" released about 15 years ago I think.

Blood Meridian, also by McCarthy, is the best book ever written, bar none. I didn't mention because I figured everyone surely must have read it by now. If you haven't read it, I suggest you find a copy, stat.

Ohhh,

1. Lolita by Vladmir Nabokov

2. Cime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky (better enjoyed in hindsight)

3. The Damage Done by Warren Fellows.

oh and 4. Forests by Teresa Green (say this one aloud)
