| Although I do agree with the premise of this website, I don't think donating 69$ for a Rwandan goat is a good idea. I have a minor in Geology and in one of the physical geography classes I took I learned that goats are actually one of the causes of soil degradation in Africa. They eat everything botanical in sight, and the loss of roots to absorb and recycle water through the water cycle turns land into desert. Goats in Africa are just a scientifically proven form of soil degradation. If you have a cellphone, a computer or whatever, you basically subscribe to the religion of science. So buying goats in Rwanda is NOT a good idea. Buy them a f.uckin irrigation system for chrissake. |

Wow! Thanks for your insightful post.
I first heard about donating goats to poor African villages on 60 Minutes (TV show). They had a story about a young woman who was able to afford high school because her family had a couple of goats. Her family was able to get money by selling the excess goat's milk they had. She took her opportunity all the way studying really hard and subsequently getting a scholarship to an American university.
Anyway, thanks for giving me something to further think about. |

In a similar vein, I've just started a new website to encourage people from the first world to give to the 2/3's world. It's the $100 a month challenge for a better world for all. Give $100 to charities of your choice and I'll add you to the list. My goal is one person a day. I've got some links on my site. Check it out.
