Hi everyone,

I have just joined (well, as of tomorrow once I pay my dues) and was wondering what your experiences have been with this organization (both good and bad). Thanks all.

KOTESOL is what you make of it. Its entirely volunteer-driven so if you see something you dont like or think could be done better, fill your boots.

It draws an eclectic mix of people who tend to be sincere about teaching. Local chapters offer seminars & workshops & a regular opportunity to mingle with interesting colleagues. The national executive oversees publications, the website, special interest groups, & the big international conference each fall in Seoul.

Not without its flaws but I think its a worthwhile organization. (I run the Gangwon chapter.)

You do? Where are you located? I am in Wonju. I'd love to get together.

schwa is one of the nicest people I know in Korea - it's just a shame that he lives so far away, otherwise I'd get together with him a lot more often, too!!

You go, Ralph... get to know schwa!!

P.s. I will answer your Pm in a bit.

Hi Ralph,

I'm the incoming KOTESOL webmaster and a fellow Shenandoah University graduate (pity what has happened to that program in the last month or so Crying or Very sad).

I quite like KOTESOL- a bit disorganized (not shocking given we are all volunteers and busy teachers), but really full of great people. A number of the SIGs in particular are really taking off, and I hope to see that transfer over to the national level.

And just to fend off the inevitable Laughing - the current state of the website is inherited- we're actually rolling out a brand new site as of March 1st.

Cheers, and if you happen by any of the Seoul chapter meetings say hello.

Laughing Interesting to find a fellow SU graduate. I am into my second full semester. As a matter of fact, I just finished reading 2 hours worth of posts (talk about problems). I have submitted possible solutions; hopefully they'll be taken into consideration.

I'd love to go to some chapter meetings (i.e. meet EFL Instructors that actually CARE about their jobs); looking forward to getting a schedule.

What do you mean by *incoming*? Either you are appointed or you are not?! And if you are appointed, then your job begins the second you agree to do it!!! Laughing

Very Happy incoming in the sense that we don't have the new site 100% up yet (as per the big ole' plan laid out at the december leadership meeting)- though we are right on schedule for having it role out on time.

so long as the servers don't magically implode. Shocked

till then i'm just maintaining the old one and using the term "incoming" to claim plausible deniability for any of the snafus associated with the older site Wink .
