(Yes, I did a search and got back 7900+, 11000+, and 18000+ results, depending on the search terms.)

Has anyone opened an account without a job? Which bank and how much did they require for the opening deposit?

I did. I have a Citibank account back home, Citibank Korea has their own dealio, so wife and I both opened our own separate accounts at Citibank Korea. I think the minimum was 10,000 won. However, I'm wondering if they let me open one because I had an F2-1 visa.

So the short answer is, I'm not sure.

Short answer is yes.

You just need your passport, and no initial deposit is necessary. An ATM card will cost you 1000won.
This is speaking from experience with Nonghyup Bank.

Good to know. Has anyone opened an account at KB (Kookmin Bank) without a job? I only ask because there's one nearby and they know me because I exchange money and receive wires there.

I hate to keep harping on you, as you seem like a nice person, but FORGET ABOUT THE BANK ACCOUNT AND TAKE A JOB!!!

How long have you been here, like 45 Days? What are you waiting for?

Is this your first job? What will your job search be like when you get back home, and there is actual competition for jobs? You don't know what it will be like once you start working, and you won't know until you do it. Research is good and all, but it's a whole different ballgame once you are actually at a school.

If you are this picky, you'll never survive in any Korean school. They are all disorganized, and are all incredibly imperfect. People who love their jobs here love them not because they are perfect jobs, but rather because they can deal with the crap (which exists everywhere) and can enjoy the good points of it, whatever they may be (nice boss, nice kids, good books, etc).

Again, I realize it's none of my business, but I just find the situation that you have put yourself in (and which all Dave's readers are constantly being reminded of) to be maddening. You're making things overly difficult, and it is just not necessary.

If you find my posts that upsetting, perhaps the best thing would be to not read them.

Okay, but what has any of this to do with a question about bank accounts?

Hmmm ... maybe a search through goodgood's posting history might answer your question. Wink
