|
|
Im running an older machine (p4 3.2g, 1.5g ram, 7600gs/246mb). The video card is a recent, budget minded, upgrade.
Im looking to push up the performance a little bit to keep in line with the new games out there. Since my MoBo is socket 775, is it easy for me to upgrade to the new core 2 duo processor (outside of rounding up the cash that is? ), without buying a new MoBo?
Also, are there likely to be further power concerns? From what I've read, the claims are that the new core 2 duo processors are a relatively more energy efficient chip. Would I have further concerns about increasing my power supply? (can't remember what I have for a power supply now, sorry)
Thanks for any input. |

you'll need to check if your board supports dual core. Just because the socket matches doesn't mean you can drop any old chip on there. if you know the model number of your board go to the manufacturers site and find out if you can upgrade to the core2duo (you don't want the coreduo). You may need to do a bios flash to get that support. |

been having some difficulty finding my MoBo specs. After a long search, it appears that the new processors aren't listed as compatible...
oh well, if I decide to take the next step, it will just mean I'll get a new mother board with SLI capabilities for future upgrades. Must save money, must save money.
thanks for the tip superhero |
