IOn a side note, I had four alarm clocks just stop working in my first year here. Why? I will never know. They were a mix of Korean brands, Chinese, and I think Western. I suspect that there is something wrong with the space-time continuum in Korea. Wink

This country's the Twilight Zone when it comes to clocks and watches.
I had the same problem before here - 4 alarm clocks died. The funny thing is they'd start up again for no apparent reason 3 or 4 months later.
They were so unreliable if I wanted to actually set an alarm to wake me up I'd have to set 3 of them and if I was lucky one would still be working the next morning to get me out of bed. It was totally totally eiree. Strangest thing is I took one of them travelling with me for 18 months into some pretty rugged places and it never so much needed even a new battery.
Is it possible that clocks can't handle four seasons...? Shocked

Yawn... boring.

Oh come on, it's all in good fun....Smile

I expect it's only a matter of time before a Konglish version of this filters into the local populace. When you finally make it home, you might do so with the distinction that you have affected the very language of a culture. That'd be way cool. Cool

Does this mean I could get a date out of this???? *laugh*.. j/k

Not with me and my yummy body, you are a walking disaster Shocked

Derrek, you need a proximity sound alert.

Moneypenny, if that is your real photo, you look like a scary fraggle, and I wouldn't want to date you.

I get five hours sleep a night. An alarm clock is very important to me.

More like that anything made over here is beyond criticism. I think the rest of us are just pointing out that Korean products seem to break quicker that other goods on average. I would agree.

Post Script to my first post.

That Samsung vacuum I said I bought and had high hopes for...
When I bought it I checked to see that all the attachments were in the box but I didn't think to crack open the main unit and see if they remembered to put in the filter. First time using it was last night and the vacuum motor clogged up with dust and started grinding. No filter. Grrr.
I have to try to take it back tonight.

Confused

yet my Japanese made ps2 thats all of 3 years old and gets used on a regular basis hasn't had a single faulty bit.

My PS2 stopped playing DVD movies a couple weeks ago. Plays DVD games though without issue oddly enough.

Not long ago, my purchased-in-Korea PS2 stopped reading CD games. I had thought the game CD itself was bad and returned it to the store where I'd bought it to have it checked out. When the proprietor placed it in one of his PS2's, sure enough, it did not play. When he placed it in a second PS2, however, it played normally. The first machine was a Korean PS2; the second, Japanese.

He then asked me if I'd bought my PS2 in Korea in Japan, saying also that the lenses in the Korean PS2's were poorly made and prone to error almost immediately following purchase.

I haven't had problems with things made in Korea but I tend to stick to very well known names like Samsung. I have a Samsung phone that I've dropped a hundred times on concrete floors and down stairs and it still works well. My Samsung computer is great; the best I've ever owned. I think in Korea there are some very good companies and products but there are also a lot of companies producing crap that you have to be careful of.

But Samsung is like the electronics version of the Korean animation studio. "Work harder!" *crack*

Whoever doesn't get it, should either apply for work at Samsung, or go watch the Clerks cartoon, and put their Kazaa to use.

She said that the new model of Motorolas were poor quality. I've heard this a lot of times in Korea-- mind you back home I swear by Motorola having used their radios as CBs, in the forest, and on the airfield... they rock and are indestructable. Smile

She said that Motorola's StarTac line of phones were of good quality (which stands true to me, since my mom is still using my old Star Tac in Canada, which is about 5 years old now). BUT she said that the new models are not of good quality and there are frequent complaints.

Anyone out there have a non-Startac Motorola phone for a verification?

i teach management types at the korean factory of a large international company which is headquartered in germany. one of my students, who manages quality control, told me that their korean plant has constant problems with its quality. they are continually recalling batches of product and having to import from germany rather than use the product of korean factories. this eats deep intotheir profits.
