I agree. American football players are like women on the rag. Both need pads. |

Spoken by someone who I guarantee never played a contact sport that required padding. You wouldn't last 10 seconds in the pit. (that's football terminology, go back to your game of handball). |

Wow that's quite the jump from a game played by a bunch of super rich sports celebs to a rant against people who might take issue with the machinations of a nuclear armed super power.
Yeah, the world is much better off with the USA in the lead, and I for one am grateful. But that doesn't mean the nation is above criticism. |

Erm ... Did you even watch it? Jonny Wilkinson wins it on an enxtra time, at the death drop goal? ARE YOU INSANE? It was widely accepted as one of the greatest games of rugby ever played, full stop. |

| By the turn of the 20th century, football had become notoriously dangerous; 18 college players died in 1905 alone. Colleges responded with a series of rule changes to open up the game, most importantly the forward pass, along with outlawing dangerous formations such as the "flying wedge", and introducing and requiring better equipment such as helmets. |

Rugby players know how to tackle and get tackled. Looks like the football players were meat heads...and the tradition continues as 99.9% of football players are meatheads today. |

Widely accepted by who? It was a kicking battle with only two tries and not much attacking flair. The best rugby game I ever saw was France vs New Zealand 1999 world cup. To put the England/Australia game on the same level is absurd. the end of that game was exciting, but in retrospect I found it odd that England couldn't put away an obviously inferior side. England were head and shoulders above anybody else that year. Thank god they won because I couldn't stand the Aussie press. Anyway as I said before comparing sports is for people with an agenda..well to start pointless arguments.
Anyone who can't see the inherent(sp) differences between rugby union and american football, and the reasons why american football requires padding is one of two things.
1 A naturally argumentative person who will ignore obvious points to make silly arguments.
2 mentally challenged.
Really watch sports and learn about the intricities(sp) that make each one special. It's worth it.
edit: lets not argue about the England world cup final as it was really an exciting game, but I do think that on the whole the quality accross team sports in finals can be lower due to pressure.
ps. Oh and its Dennis Hickie. Were did u watch the rugby? Is it available online. |

What does a Russian girl know about rugby? How does a Russian girl pick up the term "wuss"? |

Same as Rawiri. Fisrt game I've ever watched. I enjoyed it but need to see more to completly understand the rules and plays.
Blaseblasphemener got it about right. It's not about disliking other codes/sports, it's about what you're bought up on.
By the way, cricket is pretty cool! |

It may be too difficult for an ignorant American to grasp, but most people around the world pick up on foreign cultures and colloquialisms when they travel. It is amazing how most Americans can go abroad and still have the same shallow world views when they return home. Your culture truly breeds you to be afraid of anything foreign. |
