February is the coldest month here. I don't remember any time the morning reading was 6 degrees centigrade as it was this morning. It has always been, as far as my memory serves me, negative everyday. It usually hits -12 for a three day period in February. I'm interested to see if this will happen this year. It was a pretty warm January. And this 6 degree positive has not occured until April in the last seven years that I've been following it.
What do you think, is global warming becoming a reality? |

Yes, it's very mild, that's for sure. On Sunday I could've walked around in just a t-shirt. But we'll have at least three more cold spells before the spring.
Global warming must have affected Korea a lot because all the old literature on Korea I've read says the winter's cold spells are very harsh. In the two winters I've been here it's been a doddle. There's rarely any wind chill factor, which makes all the difference.
In my public school room it's actually sweltering right now because people from Japan-lite are such wusses about temperature. |

Well lemme tell ya, I'm in Chicago right now, and can't friggin' wait to get back to Korea. IT'S SO FRIGGIN' COLD!!! It's been about 1-3 degrees Fahrenheit all week. What good is it being home if you can't even go outside? |

Well, considering how poor people were, and how relatively ineffective heating is here, I am not surprised that people used to think winters were harsh. Do you think that they had fur coats and such to keep them warm? They would be lucky to even have shoes to wear, methinks. |

| I praise the high heavens and spiritual God of Scarativitakumatesh for the sweet weather...I'd be freezing and shivering my buns off if it were cold out there right now. This weather is perfect. Please oh high and mighty one, let it stay, let it stay... |

The literature I referred to was written by British and American observers of Korea.....not shoeless, ondol-less Koreans. |

It looks to me like you all missed the beginning of spring on Sunday: 입춘, the beginning of spring on the 24 season traditional lunar calendar. It's usually more accurate than the solar calendar.
Even more important, the Groundhog predicted an early spring. He would never lie about something like this.
Regardless of who wrote the weather reports 50 and 100 years ago, they all reported that the Han River froze every year, usually enough for people to walk across it. That almost never happens anymore. |

Someone posted great pictures of that on here one time.
However, we all know that Seoul has a much different climate than 30 minutes East, North, West and South of the city. I wonder if the river still freezes East of Seoul???? |

| I was just thinking how much milder it's been this winter than last. If this is because of global warming this is one aspect I can handle. |

Pollution keeps us warm
Out in Kangwon Province it's probably a bit nippy still.
I wonder at what point my students will stop bringing blankets to school and the Kteachers stop saying "Chuwa!Chuwa!Chupji!"
When it gets to 20?25? |

Who said this global warming thing was bad? I'm rather enjoying this mild weather. Let's just wait a couple more years before we do anything drastic to reverse the process. |

I didn't know what 입춘 was, having first heard it, (maybe it's also 춘입,) but I know it is not yet 설날 which is the late-coming Lunar New Year this year. Being some kind of lunar-solstice I can guess that winter is delayed rather than brought forward as 'Spring's entrance' suggests. For, according to the late lunar new year this year, perhaps winter is also late and hardly begun. |

Yes, you would easily be able to tell the temperature difference year-to-year. Afterall, we can all easily notice the .002% yearly increase in global temps since 1800.
BTW, throughout the US midwest, they are currently experiencing the lowest temperatures ever recorded in many cities. Ever. |
