| Well, right, if you go into education because you think you can make a decent living and make money, then that's definitely the wrong reason to go into it. That's why you teach English in Korea, not why you get an education degree to use at home. |

At least its better than America. |
It is that easy to generalize a place that has more major cities in one state than the whole of Canada...and for that sake, the (not so) Great Bear across the pond?
Oh please, Natasha.... At least the names of our women aren't synonymous with prostitution due to a 40 year long failed experiment. People from your country would give their last bottle of fermented potatoes for a chance to work and live in America...of course, complaining all the way about how it's not as good as the fatherland.....
ugh! Why am i getting annoyed by a sock?? |

I'm sorry but maybe we have a different idea of what a 'decent living' entails. Anybody who thinks that they can get rich by teaching in Canada, the U.S.A. etc, is an idiot. And that's not what I meant by making 'a decent living'. I meant that I thought I would make enough to be comfortable, maybe not save much, have a second-hand car, but at least not be the working poor. I thought that this is what the term 'decent living' meant.
I sincerely hope that you are not one of those people who feels that teachers should wear rags to school, stay till 8:00 every night, and basically let their job take over their life as they become a self-sacrificing slave to their students. I read a comment in Maclean's magazine once by someone regarding teachers. She said 'I firmly believe that teaching is not a career, it's a lifestyle'. Holy crap! I didn't realize I had signed up to be a priest. Forget that. I work hard when I'm at school, I'll take stuff home on weekends to mark, and spend my own money on supplies. Heck, I even used to go into school on Sunday to prepare for the next week because I CHOSE to. Not because the public demands or expects that I do. |

| I agree with endoftheworld. At least you won't have to support your brother. My Korean boyfriend is the only son and he has been working LONG hours for many years, only to have to support his parents and his 41 year old divorced sister. They all live together. Finally, the sister is working part-time and she helps out the family with her pay, too. |
