|
|
I would like to place myself somewhere that I could make a habit of skiing during the winter, without having to travel too much. Are there any particularly good regions in Korea?
Additionally, would skiing regularly cut into my budget quite heavily? In the states it seems almost prohibitively expensive for a young person trying to save money. |

Do you mean Bearstown? That's where they had the chairlift accident earlier in the ski season. Used to be my favourite. |

I've been to High1 a few times. It is great for beginners (very long beginners course) and advanced, but there are not many intermediate runs. It is very nice, though, and crowds aren't so bad. |

If you stop at a rental shop just outside of the ski area, you can get a nice discount on lift tickets and cheaper rentals. At High1, I went to Seven Ski rental shop and got a full day lift ticket, ski clothes and ski and boots rental for 63,000. YOu also get a ride to and from the ski area. www.7ski.co.kr
At Yongpyong, you can get about the same deal at www.pointski.com
I imagine you can get teh discount at most of the rental places in the ski towns. |

Update!
Leaving to go to Hi-Won in a few minutes....it's 3:30Am
My brother in law just told me that the lift is FREE!
he also said that there's no charge for anything except rental equipment.
Weird huh?
Bumpy thread because it took me about 30 minutes to search for this sucker...
Will post pics of the runs etc when I get back... |

i went to yongpyong earlier this year and i thought it was pretty nice. i got a pretty good deal on transporation and tickets through a travel agent, lodging i took care of on my own so it wasn't too bad, but where they stuck it to me was with the rentals (50,000 Won/day for a snowboard). if possible, rent from where you live and not at the resorts. a link to the yongpyong webpage is below and pics from my trip can be seen on my site.

not sure where you live, but theres a small resort 20mins from chung-ju - suanbo blue valley ski resort. (near worak san national park)
if you're a first timer, this is fine taster, but if you've been before you might want to try some of the bigger resorts.
we got half day skiing & lift past for 30 000 each, although we blagged 50% discount by befriending shop-owner who i think was amused by our lack of a clue about anything! (we thought we could hire gloves!) |

The lift was FREE before noon...and this was a huge place. 2 miles of beginner runs, one or two intermediate I think...I'm defenitely a beginner though...but it was cool. No entrance fees, no lift fees.
Unless you need to rent boots/snowboard or skis. The rentals are 14,000 won. I have my own ski jacket, pants and gear...so did everyone in my group.
Ze food vas not free either.
I saw quite a few foreigners, some were Army...some not.
It was a lot of fun, especially for free.
Free lifts stop at noon. But hey, we had a good time.
I think I broke one of my legs and one of my paws though...
Everything hurts.
Pics to come soon |
