I'm looking for an Ipod type MP3 player. 20-40 GB. I just don't want to spend all the money for a new Ipod. Are there othe cheaper alternatives that are worth considering?
I basically just want to play my music and use it as backup for all my pics and documents from my laptop. Movies might be a nice feature but not vital. Same with FM tuner. |

I don't think you're going to get away "cheap" for a HD-based music player. iPod sets the price, I'm thinking. The Korean brands just have to be a little cheaper. |

I, personally, like Cowon mp3 players.
The M3, M5, or X5 sound like what you are looking for.
Check www.cowon.com to see them and www.danawa.com for prices. |

personally i own a cowon iaudio x5l, i love it, the x5l has a 30 something hour battery life and 30 gb of space. the only problem some might have is you gotta organize it yourself.

Check out the I-River S7 from Lotte, and other places.
It will run you around 80,000. Sounds better than the Shuffle, and has a radio too. You can buy different faces for it. |

iAudio have a very good reputation for mp3 players. Make sure you check out rockbox.org for alternate firmware for your iAudio. Besides adding a lot of music listening functionality you also get a bunch of other plugins, including a Doom engine

| The search function is your friend. There is even a topic on the first page of the tech forum that addresses your question precisely. |

Guys, OP is looking for a hard disk based MP3 player, not a flash based.
I recommend the Cowon/iAudio/Creative players because they actually sell GOOD SOUNDING media players (iAudio plays FLACs which are the new WAVs and Creative is primarily a media hardware company).
Creative is getting a lot of good rap for their latest stuff, should check that out if you want something that is internationally based. |
