hey i'm down here in thailand and the big news today has been they are reopening Don Muang airport soon while they fix the mess thats at the new airport. Some airlines are going to move to Don Muang while some are going to stay at the new airport.

thinking is that Thai will stay but the others (inluding the discount airlines) will be moving back. they didnt say when but money is on it being in the next couple of weeks

before you head down here check to see what airport you will be flying into

Thailand will have 2 International airports.

Swamp land is reclaiming the new airport it seems.

Don Muang airport ready for re-opening within 45 days

Transportation Ministry has said Don Muang Airport is expected to resume its service to passengers within 45 days.

Government spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalarp quoted Transportation Minister Theera Haocharoen as telling the Cabinet meeting Tuesday that within 45 days Don Muang Airport that was closed in September last year will be able to resume the services.

Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont announced earlier that Bangkok will now have two international airports; Suvannabhumi and Don Muang.

Considering the increasing number of passengers and demands, the Cabinet decided that Don Muang Airport, will be re-opened.

He was speaking after chairing the weekly cabinet meeting Tuesday. Theera's ministry was assigned to prepare Don Muang for the re-opening.

"Considering the problems we have now at Suvannabhumi Airport and the number of passengers are increasing, the Cabinet decided that Don Muang Airport will be re-opened and Bangkok will have two international airports."

The spokesman said it was an idea of the prime minister who said before the cabinet meeting that it was appropriate to use existing facility. This would alleviate problems occurred during repairs and improvement of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

about time they pulled their finger out. I was looking forward to going to suvanabummi this winter and it was a total nightmare. What's with us arriving at A, being told to board at J (14 km of shopping later) only to be bussed back to B again!!! And there wasn't even a plane at our gate so why they bussed us is anyone's guess.

And has anyone ever been in the leading airport in any country that doesn't have announcements? Even Yundum airport had announcements Evil or Very Mad

every day there is another problem with the airport. I hate once you get down to your gate there is no where to go to get a snack etc you have to stay up on the 3rd floor.

A lot of heads are going to roll over this mess

It makes the airports in Laos and Cambodia look state of the art

I went through the new airport yesterday for the second time. It is a workout to get through this one! We walked for about 30min straight to get to our connection. Seems a bit strange. Also, have had to take a bus out to the plane for both flights.

I'm flying in on the 20th- on the 18 hour flight from JFK. Confused

Business class. Cool (no rich boss, I am just cashing in a stash of miles!)

Anyway, I will just need to get a taxi, I hope it is as simple as it was at the old airport. Unless, of course, I land at the old airport. Shocked

Also, you know how they put newspapers before you get onto the plane? I just happened to pick one up that talked on the front page about "dangerous cracks on the runway" while the jet was taking off from Siem Riep to Bangkok. Great. Just what I like to hear before I touch down at a messed up airport.

same thing happened to me on my stopover in Taipei on my way down here, was freaked about that.

Thai airways is now saying they will transfer most of their domestic flights to Nok Air which will run out of Don Muang

Looks like the switch will occur in April

BTW: Charlies Huts on Chaweng is no more, very few really cheap places left on Chaweng. kind of sad, now you can no longer tell when the boat arrived from Surat as there are very few backpackers on this beach now

Hogwanguy,

Maybe they are all going over to Ko Pha Ngan now.

Chaweng bites. I like it for maybe a day now, then that's it.

Besides, Phuket has more to offer than Samui, in my view.
It is also cheaper to fly to.
