So I moved into this new apartment recently. The former co-worker (who is still storing his stuff here until he returns from a trip) has screwed almost every window shut. There must be 15 patio windows, including nearly as many house windows and windows between the patio and the house.

There are an average of two to four brackets with four screws in each bracket. He also installed bolt-locks on some of the indoor windows (those aren't so bad, because they open) in addition to the brackets.

The last time I saw a house like this, it was at a neighbor's house back home. It got busted as a meth house. The person had fried their brain, had 3 security systems, and screws/locks every 5 cm around the door frames and window frames to keep them from opening. There was one functional door in the place, and it had 3 locks on it, including two deadbolts.

I think I've spent an hour removing screws here, just so I can open windows and air the place out daily.

He probably did it to get back at the school. Some of the screws are vitually impossible to reach. They wouldn't put bars on the windows (we're on the 3rd floor, but there are stairs to the front) and he was pissed about that.

If he is storing his belongings with you until he returns....you have a chance to ask him.....why.
Maybe he's got a screw loose?!

Just from reading the thread once, my first thought is that the guy is completely paranoid that someone was going to try and break in to steal his stuff. No?

Root through his stuff. Tell us if you find drug paraphernalia.

Well, break-ins do happen here. I've had stuff stolen (off of my motorcycle) before. We've all read about people breaking into places and raping foreigners and Koreans alike. This country is pretty safe, but it's a perfect world we live in.

I have no idea why he did it. A few of the windows I can understand. But not all (and not so many screws).

Maybe he was planning on kidnapping some of his students and torturing them ...

High crime area perhaps...

Better leave it all, there may be a good reason.
