I'm disappointed the swear words we were using didn't make it on. There was a lengthy discussion about 구멍동서, and then the thread came to a close with a bunch of posters laughing about Korean *beep* size.

Well, I hope they dust off the old 'i love my privates' chestnut. I'd like to see them make sense of 'one of my privates has huge teeth and greasy hair like Tony Robbins."
Even if it DID make immigration hate me forever, like some people think, I had fun with that thread.
Please, big creepy invisible Immigration bosses...I know you're reading this...it was all just a bad joke, I swear I'll NEVER write dumb threads about privates again...I swear!

It's supposed to be this:

I'll second that. It's my #1 most used Korean word.... mostly used while I'm driving (keeps me from saying other words that I shouldn't say. )

The guy mistranslated it. He thinks "I'll second that" means "that's my second favorite Korean word". So, the translation doesn't really make sense.

My wife pointed out that everything on that page is poorly translated, and even the stuff at the top is poorly written. That's why she suspects the writer isn't a Korean.

but he's definitely not an english speaker, unless "I'll second that" is an unheard-of phrase in some parts

I found another page when I googled Qinella one time. Also on dreamwiz:

http://newsbbs.dreamwiz.com/BIN/nbbs.cgi?cmd=v&board=2&num=1780&page=&form=n1_gcafe

This was the thread I started entitled "If you hate Korea then go home".

On the one hand, I think it's cool someone is translating what we write into Korean. On the other hand, I don't really like the way s/he leaves out some things, and doesn't translate accurately. That thread I just linked ends with me quoting a guy who said that a reason to come to Korea is because even fat guys can get laid. I sarcastically responded that it is a big reason, and those two messages were the final two ones the person translated. Then, of course, look at the responses:

1. 맨마지막 젠장할... 욕이나오는군 ㅡ.ㅡ

2. 성관광 하러 왔군..쳇
누가 이렇게 만들어놨노..

3. 이런주제로 이야기하는것도웃기고,,; 특히 마지막은,,어쩌면 한국인으로써 챙피하군 - _- 성性이판치는나라같잖아

All three comments were about that, referring generally to these "sex tourists" being a disgrace. Bleh.

Found a couple other pages where stuff was translated to Korean.

The thread about Korean fried chicken

The thread about Korean women and nose jobs

Kinda weird what these people choose to translate.

I've wanted to do the opposite for a long time, but Korean internet slang is beyond me. especially when they're trying to work around a swear filter

So far none of these threads seem to have any ill intentions towards us. I'm also disappointed they don't translate any of my stuff.

Same thing happenned on pusanweb a while ago kinda distressing until people noticed it was basically just a translation of a different thread.

Can anyone read the comments on those threads?

OMG I googled my tag and found this:

Quote:
LG Electronics, the world's leading air conditioner maker, said on Thursday that it will start selling air conditioners that prevent avian influenza with a special filter coated with a substance extracted from a fermented kimchi. The new air conditioners target Southeast Asian countries affected by bird flu and will be marketed this year.
The new products, nicknamed ``Anti-A.I. Aircon,'' have a filter covered with an anti-bacterial substance extracted from kimchi, South Korea's spicy fermented cabbage dish, the company said in a press conference.

``A special filter is coated with a substance called leuconostoc citreum, which is derived from kimchi. After tests, the filter was found to block viruses that causes bird flu,'' said Seo Seok-jang, chief of the company's air conditioner research lab, during the conference held at Grand Hyatt Hotel in central Seoul.

Korea Times, 1st of December, 2006. "LG to Market Unproven Anti-Bird Flu Aircons" Claaaaasic.

Qinella, do you have a link to the nose job thread here on Dave's? Cheers.

Actually, this is your answer when somebody writes poorly on here, gets pulled up about it, then says, "it's just a message board! I don't have to bother with spelling and punctuation!!". Here you are. Koreans are reading this board. I guess this little learning English club chose to translate Dave's threads because they assumed that on a native-speaker teachers message board there would be a good level of English.

Seems to me if you really really hated your fellow ESL teachers, when you moved home you could start some fake blog at blogspace and post a weekly story about how you seduce your students or something. There's some blog about a mystery British guy in Shanghai that writes ostensible stories of all the Chinese women he seduces. He's got millions of Chinese netizens up in arms trying to figure out who this guy is so they can deport him.

I remember back during the English Spectrum scandal, some guy put up a fake web page about how to seduce your students and then forwarded it to the Korean media. They just jumped all over that...

Yeah, so everyone be nice to each other or the first one who moves back just might make life difficult for the rest of us.

Do a babelfish translation of this one. I like the babelfish title translation:

"The Korean female children put on the mini skirt at only winter, well! Oh!?"

There's some rich stuff there:

RACETRAITOR: The inside wife puts on the very day only the short skirt.

Wow an inside wife and by extension he must have an outside wife. Dude! Smile

mindmetoo: re re: Oong, the talk which is possible Oh!.
It will put on the cloth neatly and tidily and it emits own charm to it will remain and it tempts it is not a crab.

(I sound like the freak from Silence of the Lambs. "It will put on the hand lotion!")
