A school told me today I had to get my resume and diploma translated into Korean to take to immigration before I can get a visa. Is this correct? |

They're full of shit. Unless Immigration tells this to you, I wouldn't believe it. Of course, if the school is going to pay for the translation, then let them.
I'd want to take the documents down to Immigration myself anyway. I don't give any schools my transcripts, diplomas, passports, or ARCs. Been burned by the dishonest too many times to trust them now. |

No, it is NOT correct at least not in my experience and we are processing several visas for teachers in our school district.
The school may want it done so they can read it (too many hakwon directors can't read/speak English). |

Who knows? Every immigration office is allowed to change the requirements for the issuance of visas etc. Maybe they just want to be seriously anal, I wouldn't put it past them. Personally though, I've never had to have documnets translated. |

They hate foreigners and think up any kind of regulation to slow down our visa applications. Last year it was requiring a LOR even if you were FINISHED your contract.
As said, they're off their nut. No other office in Korea is as anti-foreinger as them. |

ha ha ha, that is the funniest thing i heard in a long time.
Immigration makes sure the name on your resume, passport, diploma, and transcripts match. The don't give a damn what they actually say. |

Nope. In fact, some people have complained that diplomas they submitted which were not in English (e.g. Latin) had problems.
Total crap. If you did submit something in Korea, they'd think you didn't qualify to teach English. |

As have people who have submitted their MA sheepskins. "What is this? It's not paper! Must be a fake" and then proceeded to write all over it with marker. |

Good luck with that one. I'd put it into one of those online translators and whatever comes up ( ) is what they'd get.
BTW- in case you don't know, the online translators are so bad, the translations can be HILARIOUS. |
